Not looking forward to those days again. Kinda glad I "finished" my build in the fall.

Woke up far too early after sleeping far too little and headed out to Summit Point with Matthew, Taylor, Ryan A and Joey today. Was a very easy drive from Alexandria to Summit with almost nobody else on the road.

I had a blast co-driving Ryan's Camaro, but in between our heats, we all piled in the RR and meandered over to at least one part of Summit Point's "off road" course. You know, to make sure all the fancy terrain management stuff worked. And it did!

The course was small and offered a couple of hills to climb. Some were either too steep or too rutted to attempt since we were just some randos clowning around without any sort of permission - but a couple of them were suitable. The RR has full-time 4WD but I elected to put it in Low range for the steep hill climb. I also raised the suspension to Off-Road Mode (2.2" higher than normal) and selected "Gravel/Rocks/Snow" from the Terrain Response knob. For the downhill portions, I hit the Hill Descent Control to see how well that'd work.

In short, this wasn't much of a challenge for the truck, even on highway tires. When you put it in any Terrain mode beyond "normal," it will show you which diffs are open or locked - it will automatically lock the center and then the rear as needed. I had two brief moments where both diffs were locked, otherwise it was content to just lock the center.

HDC also works very well to keep your speed down as you descend a hill. There was a point where I went down a small grassy hill with HDC doing all the work and my feet on the floor. Pretty wild as you can feel it grabbing one brake caliper at a time to manage the body and weight transfer.

Definitely want to get out to a mild trail and see what else this can do! Off-Road Mode goes 2.2" higher than normal, if you beach the truck on something it will enter "Extended" mode on its own, which is another 1.5". From there, I can hold down the "raise" button for three seconds with my foot on the brake, and it will go another 1.5" taller. The Extended/Super-Extended modes will only last until you get above ~5 mph but they're a cool trick and functional for clearing obstacles if the need arises.

The fact that we did all this with four heated seats, tri-zone climate control and a heated steering wheel all cranked up was pretty cool. I'm really liking this weird SUV so far.

I know you joke, but you can totally trick the thing into going into Extended mode. Raise it to Off Road height, put a jack stand under the frame rail, and lower it to Normal. The truck will sense the "obstacle" and raise back to up to help you, you know, avoid it. Boom, now you're in Extended height. Turn it off and get to work. Or have Alfred do it.

Alfred would probably use an oil extractor like a gentleman, though. This does still have a dipstick tube for such needs and would keep his tuxedo cleaner.

Yes, new iPhone's and (high end) Android's take great pictures for a phone...

I'm also happy to see this thing off road. In 4 more pictures of it on an actual trail.

Yup. It's great to see they haven't lost their way and simply add luxury to a very capable off-roader. Great to see you out there experiencing it!

iPhone 8 (not the Plus), yeah.

I'm in a few LR groups on Facebook and posted these photos yesterday evening. Some people commented with their own adventures:

I would definitely like to set up some trips next year. We could do a day trip to Peters Mill Run and head back to Harrisonburg for some post-4x4 food and drinks that evening, or do a longer trip to Rausch Creek - I know Cabell wanted to plan that a while back. Would be fun to bring a group of 4x4's that aren't lifted Wranglers/Tacomas out to play.

Yeahhhh.  Would need to pick up another set of wheels (LR3 wheels) for the LR4, the ones on it are kind of rare and expensive as sin to repair/replace.

Hill Descent Control is definitely freaky! I  have used it a couple times ROUGHING IT TO A WINERY  Wink and I end up having to disengage it cause it goes so slow.

Pretty sure Jess would kill me if she saw me having too much fun in her car...

I forgot that I left it turned on as we started driving across the flat grassy area leaving the hills - got up to 10-11 mph and WHAM it slowed us down again. Oops Rolleyes

She keeps on soldiering along with no real issues to report. I do occasionally come out to a very firm brake pedal on cold mornings, but it goes to normal once I start the car. Not sure what that could be and need to read up on it.

I got a very polite chime yesterday morning and was informed that my spare tire pressure was low. Apparently this has a TPMS sensor in each wheel (spare is a full-size, same as normal wheel) and the truck knows when you move wheels around, so no reset is necessary.

The spare is located under the cargo floor cover, which is unwieldy to hold open. And Land Rover thought of that:

So neat, I love little touches like this.

Side note: it snowed overnight but not enough to have any fun Sad

That's nice that it tells you the spare is low. People never think to check that and when they need to use it it's flat. Ask me how I know.

Yeah man. The only flat I've ever had was last year after dropping off my trailer post-VIR. The F150 chimed and one of the tires was losing pressure about a mile from home. I just limped it home, but threw the spare on and of course it had about 20 psi in it. Always good to check the spare when you check the others.

I thought I had a bad TPMS for months before I thought to check the spare. Had like 13 psi, haha.
