I'm around Monday through Thursday until further notice if you need help, just let me know. Looks like it'd be a fun little project, I'd like to see how Audi set up the that damping system.

Will reminded me this weekend that I've neglected this thread. I don't really have a good reason, so that's mostly good news since the first 8 months or so have been [mostly] trouble free.
Mileage: [Bevis Laugh] ![]() I've put about 6,000 miles on it since last fall which has mostly been daily driving kids to school and myself to work, and I feel terrible about it. The front bumper is getting pelted and has small paint chips, and transporting kids daily is not easy on any vehicle which I think adds to my guilt of taking it every day. The miles are worthless and give the car next to no opportunity to be itself, and do nothing but burn the fuse down towards the inevitable implosion; but damned if the car doesn't make me giggle every time I start it up. I have gotten better at understanding the nature of the beast and accepting the fact that unless I idle away from a stop/red light, I'm going to look like Speedy McDouche even without getting into boost. The car is faster than the laws of physics say it should be and there isn't a yellow light or traffic gap you can't make if you want to, even if need to wait for the turbos to spool. I've attempted a few runs on an un-named stretch of interstate and if I have a disappointment about the car it is I do not think I'll ever find the point where it stops pulling. Hitting the happy pedal from 80 brings you into double speed limit territory faster than other car I've owned can get to 60, and it showed no sign of slowing anytime soon. We had a couple nice days of no snow in April, so I pulled up the pressure washer and the foam cannon I've had sitting around for a year or so and gave the car it's first proper wash since I've had it. Maybe a question more suited for the wash/wax thread, but I didn't get as much foam as I though I would, it was still kind of runny. I'll have to play with the settings or maybe soap type. Did you know the stock wheel are silver and not gunmetal? She cleans up nice for an old girl and the Avus Silver paint has some decent flake in it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I met a fellow Audiphile from c'ville at one of the first C&C I took it to and he grabbed a few photos. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

This car is wild, but for some reason, I feel confident you can take this car to a normal mileage and make it survive.
What's the big worry on these? Timing chain issues? They don't chunk cylinder walls or eat bearings do they? I pick which kid you like least and turn their college fund into an Audi fund. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

They have already been identified, but it goes into a P-car fund. Rhymes with GT-me RS It's just a high maintenance car in which every part is several time more expensive than that of a sibling vehicle. But it comes with the territory of having a onetime build car. Timing belt is due every 35k and transmissions are known weak spots. I'm sure I could putter it along for the next 100k miles ok with no real issues, but what fun would that be for me, or the car?

i love turbo audis for reasons i can't explain, and its so awesome to see you putting the miles on it. i get much more joy out of seeing these cars on the road and exercising their engineering than sitting in some collector's warehouse doing nothing. take the rock chips as a badge of honor earned from miles of making you happy.
i never did understand why audis have such appallingly short t-belt intervals. it was 60k on my old 1.8T and i thought that was pushing it for a limited lifespan. 35k seems crazy if you drive as frequently as most people. what are they making these belts out of, horsehair and elmers? Senor_Taylor Wrote:Or do what I would do and keep it too long and let it destroy you. all audis do this, either through physical abuse or financial collapse. its part of the charm.

I've talked to a couple of owners that have run them until 70-80k miles regularly and swear it's fine, but that seems like playing Russian Roulette with only one empty chamber.

This car was meant to be driven to work with smiles on your face every time you touch the gas pedal, don’t fret about rock chips. I was so jealous of the sounds this car makes as Dave politely cut me off mid sentence with the sounds of V8’s screaming and turbo’s spooling, that for a second I forgot about how much it costs to keep the thing running. I’d say have as much fun as you can with it, then dump and run as fast as you can before it blows up.
