Yeah we had no idea it existed either. Look up tile refinishing/reglazing. I'm sure there are a million people doing it in Harrisonburg too. The guy that did ours must make $$$$. One man operation, very little equipment, material cost. Worked like 5 hours a day at our house (2 different days) and made $1400? Multiply that out times one bathroom a day!

The shower door is really the huge difference maker though. Like Taylor said who the hell wants to shower in the dark? It is so much brighter in the shower now and it makes the bathroom itself look a little larger.

Also a 5 year warranty on his work.

Good timing talking about furniture. My dresser is a $100 Target special that I bought fresh out of college, and it's finally falling apart to the point of "screw it, time to buy a new one" that's nicer.

Style-wise I'm probably going for a quasi-"industrial" look with wood and metal mixed. Is Etsy really legit for finding furniture? I've started nosing around Wayfair but haven't made it too far yet. Seems like $500+ for a dresser is "normal" which I think is absurd, same for $200+ nightstands. I want new ones to match said dresser but not for that kind of money.

Also curious where you all sell old furniture - the dresser will just get pitched but my current nightstand and most living room stuff will all be gradually sold and replaced.

Possibly. We're still looking for furniture. Specifically dining room stuff. Well, I guess it's just me.

Craigslist still, believe it or not, and community or region's For Sale Facebook page if your neighborhood has one.  We've had good luck with both.  We also about to yard sale it for our community yard sale this weekend.  From my first newbie experience with a yard sale last year though, you tend to get an "interesting" crowd that drives around to community yard sales to buy stuff...not usually the ones who want to pay more than $5, for anything

All our furniture was craigslist, Etsy, or Overstock. The one exception is our credenza, which we bought directly off the California builder's website.

Etsy is good if you're looking for a particular style. There's a lot of people overcharging for vintage stuff, but the two custom made pieces I bought off Etsy were exactly what we wanted for reasonable prices.

I second Craigslist. But I have to say, Facebook's selling platform now seems to get much more traction. I've been downsizing the past few months and I'm getting double the amount of responses by selling there v Craigslist.

Made almost $200 yard sale-ing on Saturday! Mostly because we sold most of the big ticket items before we moved last year. We've got someone coming today to look at an entertainment console with built in fireplace with remote that I had in my old man cave. Wifey doesn't want it in her workout room and I have a different setup now in my new man cave. That would add another $250 to the ole Rolex fund. It feels really good to slowly purge stuff we don't need or use.

With that said, we finally found two nightstand tables that were decent quality and matched the finish of the guest room bed set for $60 each at At Home. I don't know if you guys have At Home up north but it is like the super mega Walmart of home decorating. They are pretty hit or miss, some of their stuff is way expensive and some is super reasonable. We actually just upgraded our Christmas tree with a 10 foot fake one from there, they had by far the best prices for the quality than anywhere else we could find them. Anyway it's crazy that I felt good about spending $120 on two small tables made from actual wood...there were lots of others in there that were $150-$250 each

How do you feel about bringing shame on your home with a fake tree?

We been fakin it and shamin it for years bro.  Wifey has allergies to a lot of trees of the Christmas-y variety (and apparently I do too).  Plus this new tree is so easy, pull the box out of the attic / closet, set up base, connect all 4 sections and the power is routed automatically through the "trunk".  There's a foot-activated pedal to turn it on.  And I don't have to cut down and lug a real 10 foot tree in and out of my house every year  Wink

Fake tree is where its at.

The real tree is nostalgic for me, my folks did it every year for 30+ years.  But we're over it now.

I'd rather have no tree than a fake tree. To me, being over a real tree is fairly synonymous to being over Christmas.

I sat out there from about 8am until 11:30.  We didn't have much to sell compared to a lot of our neighbors who literally set up clothes racks in their driveways and were slanging all of their kids old toys and stuff.  But I got rid of some cheap bookshelves we had that were taking up space, our old Christmas tree, an old TV that remote controls don't work on anymore, a bunch of knick knacks wifey had gotten as gifts and stuff over the years, some clothes and I sold one of my Destiny figurines Tongue

Everything else we literally tossed into bags or directly in the back of the CX-5 and drove to Goodwill so I could get a donation ticket for tax season.  We cleaned out two entire closets!  Definitely worth a few hours and a few hundo.  I also got to meet some of our neighbors from other streets so that was cool too

Literally do this every season, especially with the wife who takes an entire walk in closet, part of mine and about 25% of it still has tags. I've instituted a new rule, that is actually being somewhat followed, that for every 2 new pieces of clothing, 1 must go. Fought for 1:1, lost. Anyway, Goodwill and donation ticket is the easy way to clear the closet.
