Ivory is the traditional 14 year anniversary present, but obvious real ivory isn't something we're interested in. Given that, I'm open to interpretation... whether it be white, off-white, or mother of pearl.

The 15 year traditional is crystal and modern is watches, so maybe I should just wait for next year.

Not sure if you will like these, but Steinhart just came out with a 39mm version of their Ocean One watches.  They made two Mother of Pearl versions for his and hers:

The Ocean One is an almost identical clone to the Rolex Submariner.  While not a Rolex, I was super impressed with the quality of the Steinhart that I owned.  They use great movements and are very well-finished for the price.  And you could get both of them together for under the $1k mark.

Waiting until your next anniversary would certainly give you a lot more flexibility in terms of his and hers though.  MoP isn't for everyone

Had wrist surgery today (no watch for me for a couple weeks) and my anesthesiologist was wearing a sweet looking Breitling. We got to talking about watches before I went under and he said it was a limited edition with 2000 made. I tried to find one like it online with limited luck. Best I could find was this one, but my doctors had a colored outer bezel. It was damn sweet!

So, my fiancé and now wife surprised the hell out of me and got me this. Had my eyes on one when I was in store looking at out wedding bands but really didn't think about it an any kind of reality. It's an amazing piece - going to start reading the manual so I actually know how to use the slide rule and other functions.

In other news, i lost an eBay auction for an unmolested birth year Seiko 6309 original turtle I've gotten infatuated since i scooped that one for my brother. Even since then their prices are getting way higher than they should be... they're not really rare it's just tough to find one in the right year that isn't distastefully modified

Insure it?!? Or is it sentimental worry? Can you insure watches like you can other jewelry? I imagine you can. Personal article policy or whatever it's called.

Just out of curiosity though, do you guys insure these crazy expensive watches? Do you insure other expensive jewelry? Like wife/fiance engagement rings? I insured my fiance's because she insists on wearing it to work (she a nurse) which worried me plus although I've never known her to lose her other jewelry, the cost of the ring just made me nervous. At the time, I didn't have a homeowners or renter's policy. And when I recently got a renter's policy through state farm, it sounded like even their highest jewelry coverage wouldn't be the best way to go. So I may do a personal article policy with them. Currently using Geico underwritten through Jewelers mutual.

I insure my wife's ring through a personal articles add-on to our homeowner's policy with State Farm.  I don't have a watch expensive enough to worry about insuring right now but I will 100% add my grail watch to that policy when I purchase it.

We have a few things specifically called out, like my wife's engagement ring and other expensive jewelry. They generally require an appraisal to do that, which is why my Tag isn't called out. We also have a $10k rider that covers exotic items like expensive watches, guns, and artwork. I got to this amount by roughly adding the replacement cost of all unscheduled jewelry, guns, and a handful of collectibles. I assumed total loss of everything (e.g. fire) to be sure I'm not extra sad should it actually happen. I think the cost is fairly nominal.

OK gang, I got more details out of Jonathan about this mysterious EcoDrive. I saw a lousy photo of it, too.

It was a gift in 2012 or 2013. No tachymeter, band liked the linked above, navy blue face, inset chrono stuff, etc. I'm assuming you'd have to have the three side buttons to control the various chrono functions, right?

Hmm, most chronos I have seen have two other buttons to operate them on either side of the crown but it's possible they weren't actual chronograph functions but some other kinds of complications.

These are miltat bands, but I'm open to other brand suggestions.

Kinda leaning toward the Hexad. I think the Hexad shape compliments the shape of the watch.



Weird thing is, Nixon sells a metal band version of the Mission, but not just the band....

Either would look great, if you like the Hexad see if you can find a "President" style bracelet. Similar shape but the links are less blocky

Also pretty obvious but the watch will wear much heavier with those bracelets. Miltat and other high quality band makers usually are doing solid links / solid end links so it's all glorious metal

side question, what's a good enough tool kit for watch repair? I see basic 16pc sets up to 100+pcs on amazon.
I'm 99% sure the capacitor in my watch is gone, (Seiko 5J22-0B69 kinetic) so I'm going to start looking into what I can do to fix it, but first we need tools.

You probably want to get a more robust, high quality kit along with a lighted magnifying lens and proper watch case holder, crystal press, etc.

I have a basic kit like that, plus a crystal press, hand puller and loupe, but I'm also not taking apart movements or anything.
