Project Canyonero
Have a TRS kit in the Prius, been in there for almost 2 years and my driver's side started to intermittently not work. Swapped everything, diagnosed a bad relay, and TRS had one in the mail to me for free99 the next day.

Truly awesome company vs the eBay hid kits.

Ballast replaced, all is well in the world. Taking the truck to the beach this weekend so the new tonneau cover is gonna get its first use!

This truck shop gave me a big truck shop catalog....I need to throw this thing in the trash before it burns up my bank account

Averaged 23.5mpg one way, 24.5mpg on the way back. Really impressive for a gasser truck! The tonneau worked like a champ and I am pretty convinced now that a truck is the absolute best beach trip vehicle. No worries about sandy gear / towels / bathing suits, just toss all that janks in the back, close the cover and forget about it. I also got to try out the 4WD for the first time. We parked in the sand parking lot at the end of a remote beach access and due to the angle of the spot I was getting stuck trying to back out in RWD. Decided to try the "Auto" setting to see how it worked vs. just popping it in 4H or 4L and it was pretty cool to feel the car sense the slippage and instantly BOOM engage 4WD and muscle out of the spot. For serious sand driving I would air the tires down next time but for all 200 feet of sand driving and a really tight parking lot that required some finesse to get out of, I was really impressed. Who says you don't need a 4WD truck living in the south?! (even though that's legit the first time I've used it :lolSmile

Only other hiccup recently was I noticed before we left that the tread on the driver's side step bar is like cracking off at the seam. I guess GM uses a plastic tread epoxied or liquid welded onto the metal step bar. Truck doesn't even have 15k miles on it and it's covered under bumper to bumper so I'm not worried about it, it's on order. But I guess I'll keep an eye on this in the future as it will probably happen again.

Taking my vehicle on the sand is on a short list of "things I'll never do". I can't think of a more caustic environment for a vehicle.

Glad you're enjoying the 4wd! Does it have any diff lockers? That seems to be all the rage nowadays to come stock.

Yeah I probably won't make a habit out of it or do any dune-running or anything, but it's nice to know this thing is capable without even having to get out of my cabin!

The All-Terrain package does come standard with the G80 locking diff. More info on that and "Auto-Trac" from GM:

Quote:The rear axle is available with the GM’s venerable “G80” locking differential, which gives drivers a traction advantage when needed and everyday comfort when it’s not. It reacts in milliseconds in low-traction situations to improve safety and confidence on wet, snowy or muddy surfaces. Without driver input of any kind, the rear axle engages when a wheel speed difference of 100 rpm or more is detected between the left and right wheels, providing instant traction for confident driving. During normal driving conditions, the differential functions as a conventional light-bias limited-slip axle.
The Canyon is also offered with AutoTrac automatic four-wheel drive. It’s a segment-exclusive feature, employing an electronically controlled, two-speed transfer case that allows the driver to shift from 2WD to 4WD. The driver can select four modes, 2WD, Auto, 4WD HI, or 4WD Lo. By selecting Auto mode, the transfer case will operate in 2WD and will automatically apply traction to the front wheels (4WD) when the vehicle senses wheel slippage.

So my engine cut off randomly after coming to a stop sign and I accelerated out of it. It was really disconcerting, fortunately I was in my neighborhood and not on a highway somewhere. All of the electronics stayed on, the engine just completely died. Supposedly this is a known thing, there is a TSB out for an ECU remap to fix a "fuel trim value not being reset after an intrusive evap purge test, causing a temporary lean condition".... Hoping that's all it is because that could genuinely put me in a bad situation. The car started right up again with no issues when I turned the key off and on. Getting that checked out asap obviously.

On a brighter note, I posted up a pic of my truck from when we were hiking at Hawksbill Mountain, NC on the GMC facebook page. They do these "owner highlight" posts where they pick a picture of a truck and feature the owner or whatever. This guy comments on my picture and then says to check my private messages. It turns out he is a freelance writer working for a consulting firm that does the articles for GMC The Magazine. I actually get this magazine for free as an owner, it comes out like maybe once a quarter. He asked me if I would be interested in potentially being highlighted as a featured owner in the Fall 2017 edition of the magazine! Apparently if I am chosen they would interview me via phone and actually fly out and take pictures of me/my family/the truck. I've seen these owner features before, they basically do one for each of the major product lines they have in the magazine.

I may not get chose because GMC apparently prefers 100% stock vehicles (including no tint) and from the exterior the changes you can see are my tint and black fog lights. But he said they may be fine with it, I will probably hear more within the next few weeks. Even if I don't get chosen for that it's pretty cool to be considered!

On the bright side, the engine cutting out will make it easier to take pictures.

Got like 8 software updates today including the bulletin I found, so hopefully no more stalling issues! Truck is definitely running strong.

Should have my phone interview for the magazine later this week!

Quick update: I got the PDF proof of the *two page spread* apparently they are doing on us, whoa! It's really awesome, what a cool experience. I can't post it up yet until the magazine drops in early October, but as soon as it does I'll post it up here.

I convinced the GMC media company to send me a bunch of swag and extra copies of the magazine, so that's cool too!!
