Just ordered a Seiko 5 Automatic blue dial diver, should be here in the next few days. I'm excited about my first automatic watch.

Very cool!! Which one? Would love to look up and see which movement it is and details

It's the SNZF15 with the 7S36 engine, 41mm. It's their most basic diver type watch from what I can tell. It's on sale at jomashop for $129 for the Dads and Grads sale.

That's a ton of watch for the price. I seriously doubt you could get anything else rated to 100m with an exhibition back for close to that price.

Agreed 100% The 7s is a workhorse movement and should treat you really well for a long time. I love that pepsi bezel with the blue dial too! Very nice choice, especially for the price you can't beat that :thumbup:

Nice! That was one thing I did like about the smart watch was being able to change faces whenever I got bored with one. If you were a graphic designer, it might be a pretty cool little side gig to design and sell faces via the Samsung / Android / Apples stores.

Did you find any good ones? I've kept this TAG imitation one because it's the best I've found like a real watch with big readable numbers (not trying to crowd a hundred little dials in there) but also let's me have a battery meter, date, and digital time on the bottom. I've browsed through them a bit but there are so many worthless ones and I'm not sure if a good "search term" that would get me good "usable" faces

I did find a bunch of really cool ones on my Gear S2 but I have no idea what they were now since I sold it a while back. There were a bunch of non-descript faces that were really cool I picked up but there was some good "replica" / homage luxury brand faces I found. You can search for TAG, TAG Carerra, Rolex Submariner, Breitling, Breitling Navitimer.

I finally found who I hope will be a trustworthy watchmaker to fix the damage that was done to my Dagaz and get it properly regulated. I swung by South Park Mall this morning as this watchmaker works out of Finks Jewelers, who happens to be one of only two Rolex ADs in Charlotte. I'm still up in the air on whether to purchase grey market (ie. Jomashop) or through an AD when I'm ready to go on the GMT Master. The cost savings is pretty significant, and there is free shipping / no taxes via JS. The only downside is you do not get the warranty card signed and therefore have no factory warranty. JS addresses this by putting their own warranty on top of it, which is not as good at 2 years vs. 5 years from the factory.

I tried on the GMT Master again for S&Gs and obviously loved it, but also finally tried on the "polar" dial Explorer II:



This has always been a close second for me. It's a fantastic looking watch and the white face and orange lettering and GMT hand really stand out. It's 42mm vs. the 40mm of the GMT Master, so it definitely wears larger. For some people that's good, for others not so much. It's very comfortable and light though and I see why a lot of people like this as a daily wearer / active watch. The MSRP isn't far off from the GMT Master but you can find this one on the grey market for much less ($7k brand new) and on the used market for as low as $4200ish.

Anyway I can see the allure of paying a little more for a factory warranty, my biggest concern was if they are willing to negotiate there and it seems that they are. To me, the sales tax hit is the biggest one to take and it sounded like they would be willing to work on the pricing to make it more attractive vs. going grey market. Just means I have to keep saving my pennies a little longer I guess!

Not sure if you guys remember when I picked up this 1920s pocket watch in Prague last year. My wife was about two months pregnant at the time, but no one really knew but us... we hadn't even told family yet. It was also a week after I had spent most of a week in bed in the hotel there AND her worst week of morning sickness. There were definitely some very non-glamorous parts, but it was also cool because we were exploring a new city and it was the first time we really told people... even if they were flight attendants and waitresses at restaurants. I bought the watch, in part, because I wanted a reminder of that moment in "time."

Fast forward today and I got this laser engraved chain for it - the date... which is nigh impossible to photograph... is the date of my first Father's Day. I feel like I'm supposed to say something else here... but I'd just fuck it up.

This is awesome man, it embodies exactly what a timepiece can evoke in you when it has meaning or is symbolic of a life event. I have a feeling Dom is going to grow up and you're going to instill in him the appreciation for things that are hand made, with quality, that weren't designed to be used, abused, tossed in the trash when the screen breaks and traded in for a new model!

This one's been sitting on my nightstand, next to a compass my wife got me for an anniversary. I've never worn it, but I can totally see myself doing so if I'm wearing a suit. This city is super casual, so there aren't a whole lot of reasons to dress up... that and my three-piece suit is from pre-dadbod times. :lol: Anyway, I'll definitely wear it when the next opportunity presents itself.

It's scheduled to be delivered today, but I'm working an arrest out of town until tomorrow night so I won't get to see it today. I made my wife promise she won't open it before I get home.
