Also yes, YMMV as Derek pointed out on PMI, I keep forgetting how lucky we are that nice houses are so cheap here. It would be a lot harder for me to stomach $200-300 PMI but I'm so spoiled from being down here for so many years.
Taylor we definitely derailed you so sorry about that but yeah with all of us adults adulting hopefully it gives you some more to think about with your car plan (ie don't be stupid and burn ca$$$h on race engines in Subarus when you're young and cash flush with no responsibilities :lol

You did it so others could learn.
If you think "hey man, I can swing a $500 car payment" when you're 22, then you should be (paying off debt or) saving more for retirement. I don't care how good your returns are, there's no making up for an extra 10 years of investment. I was married at 25, so I didn't have that single-and-making-cash phase, but bumping from my 6% (401k match) to 10% would likely have made a noticeable difference.
I'm a big fan of spending money to enjoy my life, so don't be afraid to buy things that make you happy... just be smart.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
On that note, have any of you "traded" for a car before? It seems pretty sketchy to me, but I see people offering all the time. I guess I effectively traded with Chan, but that seems different.
If I could have back all of those bar tabs from age 21-31....oof

From all the trades I've witnessed or considered there's one theme I picked up on, the cars were all silently fucked in some way or the other the owner knows about but is leaving unsaid.

I went to a presentation that a financial advisor held at jmu and even he admitted, the reason he loves his wife is because if it wasn't for her would have never experienced anything in life. Ya gotta find that balance.

Ya gotta find that balance. Yeah that was the problem with me though, there was no balance  It's not like I went to the bar every now and then to catch the game with my friends. There are a few things in life I'm really good at, and drinking was one of them. At one point I was spending on average $75-150 per night, almost every night of the week on bar tabs, not counting the bigggg ones or the company-sponsored ones. Financially, it might as well have been a cocaine addiction.
I had some fun times, most of them I don't remember but it definitely helped mold me into who I am now and gave me a bigger perspective about what is important in life so I don't know that I would necessarily "take it back" (no rAgrets). And yeah everything turned out fine but I wouldn't mind having that money back to spend on something more enduring than liver damage  :vomit:

I contemplate emailing that kid with mine/our e46 and seeing if it's blown up yet. Knowing my luck they fixed the oil problem for $5.

Haha yeah, my (now) wife told me she always wondered why I never had to pay for meals on some of our dates to my buddy's restaurant / sports bar (it's because he had a "rewards points" program with a point for every dollar spent on booze. I had lots of free meals)

So should I buy a car with booze reward points? Should I just buy a Limo with a bar in the back and live in it? You guys lost me.
If only booze reward points were a thing.

Why? A medium cheese pizza from Domino's folded in half works just the same and I get to eat it.
Think I can shovel the snow from your driveway for the money?
RawrImAMonster Wrote:If only booze reward points were a thing. They are in SC believe it or not! Liquor stores are privatized and I shit you not, you can earn reward points at some of them. This one is a few miles down the road. I can't remember what the rewards are, but I do distinctly remember that if you got into the 6 figure+ in points they will like pay for a trip to the Bahamas or something!
