Girlfriend's birthday is coming up and was thinking it might be nice to take her to some vineyards. A little day trip. We'd be leaving from richmond and heading west towards harrisonburg. I'd like to have lunch in harrisonburg I think so maybe one stop on the way up. Maybe hit up crosskeys while we're up there cause I know she likes that one.
But looking for other suggestions. Maybe looking to hit 3 or 4 total for the day. Might mix it up and do bold rock or blue toad instead of one vineyard. Don't know. Guess anything that's good along the way up. Maybe cville or around Afton. And then anything near harrisonburg. I know bluestone vineyards is down in Bridgewater but I've never been so maybe if someone suggests it. Any of you classy people have some ideas?

Route 151 off of Afton has tons of breweries and vineyards. AM fog, silverback, blue mountain.
All within 1000 yards of each other.
Go to Bluestone and then you can stop by my farm and ride a horse LOL
Pollack (on 81 near Afton). Albermarle Cider Works (off 29). King is supposed to be good. Blue Toad is supposed to be good.
Since you already have Cross Keys, Pippin Hill is my recommendation if it isn't too far out of the way.
Edit: I've also been to Trump but wouldn't recommend. Nothing spectacular.

Oh haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.
If you're coming up over afton, there's a nice little loop you can do for Jefferson, Blenheim, and ?Pippin Hill? then cruise on up to Afton for some hard liquor at silverback and lunch at the blue toad/well hung pub.
If you're trying to stick near HBurg, Bluestone is easily my favorite vinyard in the valley, I think Cross Keys wine tastes like swamp water, but if your gf likes it more power to her. I also really enjoy Barren Ridge, which, again, if you're coming across 64 into the valley you could make that your first stop, jet over to Bluestone, then hit Cross Keys and Purple Wolf on the way into the 'burg, end with dinner.

That starts you at Jefferson, then you hit Blenheim, then Trump (it's RIGHT THERE), Pippin Hill, finish at Veritas and you're right there at I64 Afton. If you wanna have lunch turn around, go hit silverback for some cocktails and literally go 400 yards to Blue Toad pub. Best cider in the area, and if you're still thirsty you can stay on that side of the mountain and go down to bold rock and devil's backbone.

Start at Veritas (because you'll be driving right past it no matter what) go to Barren Ridge (Must try: Red Barren), hop over to Bluestone (Must try: Crooked & Weedy) backtrack a bit to cross keys, then hop over to Purple Wolf/Lavender Farm and you'll be on the back side of the burg to go wherever you want to eat.
OR, get totally fuckin' hammered and combine the two. You end at Veritas on Option A, begin at Veritas on Option B, you do the math. Probably won't be able to tell the difference between wine and koolaid by about halfway through buuuuuuuuuut #yolo.

I don't have fancy maps, but I'm with Rex, Bluestone wine is better than crosskeys (Crooked & weedy = candy in a bottle if you're into sweeter wines) but their tasting room, while nice, is small and not all fancy like crosskeys.
Thanks Rex! I take a look at those tonight. And everyone else. Probably won't be hitting many breweries for those who suggested it. I'm very familiar with 151, in fact, I'm sitting in Nellysford right now writing this. It's my typical Thursday route. But anyways, girlfriend is gluten intolerant and I hate beer. So not too worried about brewery row although bold rock and blue toad are both out here.
I'm still thinking of some ideas but ideally I'd like to be in Harrisonburg around lunch time as opposed to dinner and definitely before we get too drunk... For uhhh.... Reasons. Knowing her and it being her first day of break, I'll doubt we'll be getting an early start either.

My wife has celiac's so I feel your pain. Hence me having been to damn near every winery and cidery in 50 miles.
If you're looking for a port style then you really should go to bluestone. The Dry dock is aged in whiskey barrels and has a very pleasant flavor. If you want an ACTUAL port then you'll have to go to Horton, but that's a totally different circuit north of Cville, I didn't map out that run, didn't think you'd be interested, although if for some reason someone IS I can make one. Horton and Barboursville are absolutely worth going to if you can make it, Horton has port wine and an amazing Rkatsiteli that is my go-to with spicy asian style foods, while Barboursville offers maybe the best wine tasting ever, and #thatoctagontho.
