Project 2.Slow Mazda3
Maybe currently besides someone like Lucy with that full drag car. I'm sure alumni in the past have had crazier things done? :dunno:

There's a difference between a family built car and one just for you. You've done pretty well.

A lot of the old alumni including me did lots of HPDE while we were students. We were dumb and focused on making 400rwhp on Hoosiers in stock seats though  Glad you went the correct route, you will be happier you did. (Parted out my GSX a year after graduating to start doing TT instead of HPDE)

Edit: Actually did my first hyperdrive/HPDE in High School right as I got accepted to JMU. I found out about Madison Motorsports because of Julie being at registration wearing an MM shirt. I asked if that was JMU (since I just got accepted), and the rest is history. Blame her.

Also, really glad to see student interest redeveloping (as well as alumni). There used to a decent contingent of MM that went to every NASA event that has been really small the past 6-7 years. I am far from the only racer to have been in MM (Rj in Honda Challenge, Evan in Spec Miata, Chad in American Iron..who else?)

Lol yeah Ryan I mean obviously there is people who have built engines and slapped on turbos and whatnot. But in terms of what you've done with a small sedan not intended to be used in any sort of Motorsports, Id say it's come a long way. You have the full cage, seats, suspension setup beautifully. Don't discredit yourself from that work! And yeah I'll be able to pull away on the straights of 33, but as soon as we come into the switchbacks is where you'll leave me behind. The speed3 is like a FWD 4cyl 1970's muscle car..... Good for the straights and that's about it lol.

Leave a speed3 stock power wise, strip some weight, get sticky wide-street tires like me, get a decent suspension, and I can guarantee you'll be faster. Also, needs a decent driver as I lapped a speed3 at Summit in DE2 with 235 RS3's.... So that counts too. The car is on the same platform as Speed3 just less weight and a lot less power.

I can say I definitely made a grocery-getting family sedan into something it's not. I can agree with that.

DAMMIT JAKE. LET RYAN HAVE HIS MOMENT. Semantics man, Semantics.

But yeah I wanna track my car eventually (if the engine doesn't go ZZB) and strip out the rear seats. I'm good on the tires I think, and the suspension is 10x better than what it used to be. Now it's all about driver skill and seat time haha

Cost: $50
Where: VIR or Summit Point Raceway (and brand new this year) Dominion Raceway
When: Schedule

You get roughly 25 mins on track with an instructor. The instructor is there to make sure you (and the other guys) don't go killing yourself. He'll show you a line, tell you when to brake, turn and help get you feeling familiar at driving at a faster rate. It's really a taster to see what hpde-ing would be like. That being said you can hyperdrive as many times as you want. A hyperdrive is one session on a saturday where as hpde is like 5 sessions a day.

Zoom zoom, thats yer boy Ryan on one of the smaller tracks at summit point following Joey
2013 Honda Fit, 1991 Mazda Miata, Princess Blanca, Mystery, 1993 Volvo 940 - sold, 2003 Mazda Protoge5 - carmax'd, 1996 BMW 328is - sold, 1996 Honda Accord - sold

What he said^. I started out with two hyperdrives and moved to HPDE after. Your first hyperdrive you'll be sensory overloaded but once you catch a taste of the go fast crack pipe you'll be hooked.

Thank you Jake for the SFI padding. Pool noodles actually come to use after all

Now that the padding is in and the "race" seats are in I have no idea where to mount my Go Pro. Where you think you could mount a roll bar mount with the Go Pro on the harness bar is blocked by the diagonal cross brace. The cross brace also has padding on it. I used to have it mounted on the metal of my headrest but I obviously can't do it now. I don't have a sunroof so I can't suction on that. The only thing I can think of is trying an adhesive mount on the foam padding on the cross brace.

Anyone have any ideas? If the diagonal cross brace didn't run right in the way of the harness bar where the seats are split things would be a lot easier....

Helmet. Suction cup on back driver side window.
Pass side of main hoop.

We can figure this out at the track.

You went overkill on the rollbar padding, which is awesome, but I think we can move or cut a gap in somewhere to give you a spot to mount the cam.
