What car should I buy? For old time's sake...
I think the V60 looks waaaaay better in person than in pictures. I'm not totally crazy about the rear end, but overall it's a pretty good looking car.

I really, really wanted to like the Saab. It's a perfectly capable car... I was kinda amazed at how it handled that packed snow roads... but it's 10 years old and getting older. It's developed a pretty significant rattle in the heat shield that, I was told, is cost prohibitive to fix. It's pretty obnoxious, actually. That and the passenger airbag is still sitting in wait to kill someone.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

The new allroad is turrible. Going to be $60k for a car with those stupid plastic fisher price stick on fender cover/flare things, hanibal lector grill and an afterthought of a nav system. At least the air suspension is gone and you can have 3 pedals.

I have never gotten the AllRoad thing, it's a not-particularly-capable offroadish vehicle that is too expensive for anyone to actually take offroad. With Land/Range Rovers at least it's a vehicle that you could take offroad if you wanted too, even though you won't because it's too expensive. And a regular A4 is more than capable at tackling what I assume AllRoad buyers thing they need that extra ground clearance for, a steep driveway that sometimes gets snow on it.

They just seem like a weird fashion accessory for the wealthy sort of person that shops at REI and wears North Face all the time but doesn't actually go camping.

You just described the entire Pacific NW, expect most people actually camp.

I've been camping 3 times. 2/3 times were in a tent and it was the most miserable night of sleep I have ever *not* gotten. 3rd time was in a camper and it was fantastic. Call me a city slicker, I don't care. Nothing about sleeping in a tent appeals to me. To each their own.

Oh I like camping, but camping in the rain can't be any fun #bcpacnorthwest.

We don't camp anymore after 2 camping trips in a row that resulted in an infestation of ticks with the dogs even with their medication.

I grew up camping on and off of our property (we have 10 acres of woods with a cleared out campsite and firepit in the middle) and tent camping isn't that bad if you have a good thermarest or better yet an elevated cot. A lot of people sleep in those ultralight packable hammocks, which isn't a bad idea but hammock sleeping isn't friendly on my back. If it pours rain though even your best strategy to keep it out is gonna be tough. Granted it's been a while and I am probably less apt to "rough it" than I used to be, but the worst night of camping sleep I ever had was when we did wilderness survival in boy scouts. We had to make our own shelter....that sucked. I will never forget the feeling of waking up with some kind of big bug on my face, smashing it and getting this overwhelming smell of stinky pine all over me.

As a side note, apparently they make tents that fit perfect in the back of a truck and they have some now for the Canyon. That would be a pretty convenient way to do it!

Eh a regular ass tent with an air mattress is more than good enough. I do that all summer long at music festivals. I've got an old shitty tent my parents gave me and it still doesn't have any problems with keeping rain out. I'm probably going to spray it with water repellent stuff this year just because, but it has made it through some heavy thunderstorms with no problems.

This all reminds me, I bought a gangster tent for our main bug out bag and I really should test it out at some point in the wild.

Camping in the cold is fine as long as you 1) Get there before it's pitch black and below zero to set up and 2) Buy a mattress and sleeping back big enough so your feet don't hang off the end.

It was a fun day the next day once I got through the pain of packing my tent in subzero weather. Even had some chocolate chip pancakes, sausage and biscuits.
