MM Spring '14 Car Show - APRIL 5th
#21
^ All good ideas. Definitely need to promote the hell out of it, as much as we can. When we have the flyer made up I'll find some of the NOVA C&C threads and post it up. I'll also invite people from my BMW forum that are in the area. I can also post the flyer in /r/cars on reddit and some regional people might show up.

I'll mention it to my shop. They primarily work on Ferrari Challenge cars and build Radicals. I don't think any F-car owners would be interested in letting college students spit all over their 430 Challenges but it's worth a shot to see if they have any interest.

Jake, you think any NASA peeps would be interested in showing off their prepped cars?

davej Wrote:Allow me to play old man for a second, if DJ McBumpitity could drop his phat beats at a volume level that still lets people talk, that would be much appreciated. (as would using radio edit versions since it's a public venue)

I second this, it's irritating to have to yell over the music, especially when signing up.

Also Kyle at City Motors, usually has some cool cars to bring out. Rex and Julie should know how to get in touch.

Dude bro with the exotics that had his driver bring a few cars, Jake/Goodspeed, I dont remember his name.

Talk with Trevor from VBD, get Polen to chime in here, Trevor may be willing to bring out the E46 and advertise his car rental for track events.

Mid-Atlantic Motorwerks?

Radio Station coverage. You can call all of them and they will do free ads on their "community updates". This helped to get the word out to the locals in the past.

Get the word out to VCU, Tech, UVA car clubs, etc.

Get the word out on the Nova/Cville/RVA cars and coffee pages. Those guys are all about hard parking so it could bring in some more attendees.

BRR-SCCA, I bet Ray or someone wouldn't mind setting up a table of sorts to promote BRR-SCCA, as well as get some members out with their prepped cars.

Holding this thing in the convo lot is going to put the burden on you guys to promote the hell out of it all over campus. No dorms/cafeterias up there so the foot traffic will be minimal.

Good work so far guys/gals.

EDIT: Updated thread title with April 5th date.

We covered just about all that in the meeting. I was giing to ask about other dealerships but decided not to since Steven Toyota was helping so much, i figured it would be weird if we brought other dealerships too.

The relationship with Bob Wade fizzled out after Bob passed and their gm went to prison. Don't even bother with Mid Atlantic. Greg is too cheap to donate anything. VBD will most likely bring the e46 or at least our new Honda Grom 125 that will be done up to match the car. I had emailed that rich tech guy with the body guard last year but never got a response. Not sure what his contact info is.

Perhaps so - I'll have mine, maybe could convince DJ to bring his. I will ask the Cobettos and see if they could email some show details around. Plus, I'll Facebook-group-whore it out to all the NASA people I have on there. I bet a few folks who are a reasonable drive from Harrisonburg would bring 'em out.

So.... Since this is such late notice on the date, Rex will be out of town for this. I'll probably bring Hannah by for a few minutes, but if your stupid music is too loud then I ain't staying cause first off that shit makes you sterile and second my kid needs to keep her hearing. If you want us to reach out to Kyle we can, but you are going to have to outright ask. We've quit doing favors for current students unless they ask, as we've been burned in the past. Otherwise, looks good. And we appreciate all the hard work you've already done and continue to do!

Trying to address everything you guys pointed out:

Nowhere did I say the music was going to be loud or obnoxious. I don't know who this guy is but Steven Toyota may be able to get him to do it for free for us. And all I've heard is he knows what he's doing. Music shouldn't be too loud. The only thing that will be obnoxiously loud is the Crutchfield Rockford Fosgate sound lab if we decide/they agree to bring it out.

Justin, we have about a 4 page list of people/ companies to reach out to and most of those were on there. We shouldn't have a problem with attendance if you want me to be honest.

We are still going to reach out to Bob Wade. If nothing comes out of it then oh well, same spot as before.

Again, I didn't realize that this was such "late notice". I'm sorry Rex won't be able to make it. Can you please reach out to Kyle?

We're not insinuating that you were planning on making our old-man ears bleed, or that you're not networking sufficiently, we're only making suggestions to have the best show we can based on what we've learned from the past. With the exception of getting the date out a smidge later than ideal, it sounds like you guys are doing a fantastic job so far, I'm really looking forward to the show.

Relax Garrett. You all are doing a great job. We've expressed concerns. The date should have been released a smidge earlier in respect to the fact that some of us have our entire year roughly scheduled in January. I'm not saying you've done anything wrong. I'm saying that when you are out of school and have a family your weekends fill up fast. Otherwise, I could give a shit. I was mostly just reaffirming what Dave J. said about the music, which we just asked be at a level we could speak over. Rex not being there isn't a big deal, we all know this, my point was just that I cannot house a huge amount of alumni this year. I'll have Rex talk to Kyle and see what's up. Like I said before. You all are doing a great job. Keep up the good work!

I'm sorry if that came off as snappy haha. I definitely didn't mean to. I was just trying to make sure I responded to everyone before class. Thank you for the words of encouragement guys. I'm hoping to make this car show a record breaker. Appreciate the help guys! Additionally I REALLY need a poster or .psd file to edit for the car show poster. I don't have enough time (and can't do it efficiently enough) right now. I have a ton of pictures from the track/last year car show/ some other events if you need anything.

Who has the .psd files from last year? Dan? Jon? Anyone know?

I'm sure Jake or I would be happy to update the flyers in Photoshop if that's what you're asking. I'm just not sure where the most recent files are.

Nice work so far gents, and let me just say thank you for the announcement being at this time - well over a month away (win). My biggest pet peeve, so thanks.

Plans and advice given so far sound great - I'll harp extra hard on the radio ads that Justin mentioned - so easy and free to do and it definitely increased our exposure by a huge amount.

Also agreed on the extra effort necessary being in the convo lot - if you haven't already, I'd get on organizing a mass email ASAP - IIRC the office in charge of that has some onerous 4-week wait process so make sure to get it out with some time to spare, same for table tent adverts.

As for the dyno, we used Jimmy Riddle (I believe that was his name) of Valley Dyno Service in Elkton. I heard however that he sold his dyno and is no longer operating the business, but here is his contact info just in case:

214 Tanyard Bridge Rd, Elkton, VA 22827
(540) 298-1570

Maybe it went to someone in the area that has kept it above-ground and would be interested in bringing it out.

Looking forward to it - sounds like it's gonna be sweet!

Unless this was in the last few months, it's still going. His dyno was at a meet I was at in october.

Oh, awesome. I guess what I heard well before that was just a rumor then - I noticed his website is down so I thought maybe it was true.

Definitely hit him up then, real nice guy and easy to work with. Hopefully all the prior legwork helps the process with JMU go as smoothly as possible, but feel free to ask if you need advice/pics, etc.

One more thing about the dyno, when we had him in '09, I think we had 8 or 9 vehicles run on it, and I know he said he likes to see a dozen per event, so if you do go ahead with the dyno make sure to publicize it hard and fast. We were hampered a bit back then because we didn't get the OK from JMU until somewhat late in the game.

I mean I'll go first on the dyno so everyone can have a good laugh and then easily beat my numbers. haha.

But, radio ads are a great idea. Can't believe we didn't think about that. Keep spouting out ideas worst that can happen is nothing happens.

I'd actually pay to have the M3 dyno'd. It'd be nice to have an idea what sort of numbers it's making.

So, me posting the thread on TacomaWorld revived the thread about our huge annual meet at Steven Toyota. The former head guy is moving, so it looks like it's on me this time. Maybe we can tie MM into it? This meet is a HUGE event. People coming in from all over. Had a guy drive from AZ to come last time...

Nope. I already requested the past 2 years (and talked to ray Schumin) about pairing an Autox with it to make it worth it. Both times and I bet this year he was never consulted despite him really wanting to be scheduled with for an autox. Spending $100+ and figuring out parking for a 50-foot rig to hard park isn't going to convince me or any of my race buddies.
