So after much debate.....Im putting this up for sale...$7k to anyone in MM as it sits with the Rota boosts on worn to hell Azenis

So now that I have the Jeep I need to set forth a plan for this baby. Ive been talking with DJ and contemplating the direction this car is going to head. I am keeping the car as-is mostly as far as power mods, so its not going closer to stock, so give up DJ.

Here is what is going to happen as of right now, the goal is to increase the reliability for when I get out on track at some point, but mostly going to focus hardcore on AutoX, and making this car something to reckon with once I get more seat time.

Fall/Winter

Sell HKS EVC, install Hallman Pro MBC, reasoning, why have the EVC if im never going to turn it down below 21psi while I am driving around, plus the MBC was $50 used and I can pull $200 for the EVC Smile

Sell FMIC and Piping to install a Large SMIC to open up the front and let the car get more air. This will come in handy when I get around to putting this car on the track as well. Should break even or obtain some profit here.

Remove the A/C, for weight but mostly opening up the front for more air.

Any none essential emissions crap will be removed, if it hasn't been already.

TIRES TIRES TIRES, trying to pick up some ceapo Summer tires for the Rotas, and sell my All-Seasons on Talon swirlies, with the addition of the Jeep to the picture, I don't think the GSX is seeing much snow this winter.

Tuning, may try and save some money for some dyno time to get some tuning on DSMlink.

Sell Stock seats, front and rear, Can get close to $500 for this due to being rare black leather interior in mint condition, will be replacing them with a set of bottom mount fixed back seats.

Go over the car for maintenance inspection, and see if anything needs some TLC. I know I probably need to replace one Motor mount and inspect the tranny mounts and other busings, tie rod ends etc.

Spring

Pick up some used R comps, 245/40/17s and install onto Evo Enkeis

Maintenance.

Brakes (pads, rotors) rotors need to be turned, and more aggressive pads.

Roll bar and Harnesses? Could be pushed back to Summer.

Summer

SAVE SAVE SAVE, Working NASA Events and haven't really planned this far ahead, im assuming since its how life is, a lot of the purchases will be pushed back to this point and time.

Do you have a classification in mind for autox or track? I ask because there are one or two things I've done that tend to send my classification through the roof that really don't have much benefit overall, especially without having to go even further up the scale. You don't want to do one little thing that takes you from the top of one class to the bottom of another. (I'm mostly looking at NASA TT, not any real plans but I'm keeping an eye on it now as a factor in mod/de-mod decisions)

Well my current classing is NASA-X C, I'm trying to stay in that class with some points to spare. Being that nothin I'm doing immediately will add points aside from R comps. I should still be in C.

My advice: get the car running by Oct. 30th to avoid major league regrets and to run at Verona.

My second piece of advice: no matter what you do, unless you're really competitive you're going to miss your A/C. Remember VMP?

Are you SMIC'ing because of all your coolant temp issues?

I second that. It has been on my winter to-do list for two years now. I missed A LOT of driving time this year because it was just too damn hot

Your car is an oven. Ive used the a/c in my m3......I dunno, only when the passenger bitches. Never had a problem, and I live in NOVA with tons of traffic!

Oven or no oven, between late June and late August, when its 90 degrees outside, and the pavement around the car is 115, and you aren't moving, it's hot. If you are turning this into a track car/autocross, and it's hot outside, where are you going to go? Sometimes staying comfortable is a big part of having a good time. This is why people a/c their trailers, which I thoroughly enjoyed the last time I was at the track.

You also may not be able to drive the car to work during that time without embarrassing yourself or hitting the showers.I found myself not using my a/c-less car to run errands either during the summer. It kind of makes it worthless, but I may be getting old.

Back on topic.
My plan for your car remains:
1. Keep A/C
2. Sell parts now
3. Work the NASA event this month
4. Buy tires this month
5. Come to Verona Oct. 30.

It is, with nothing but glass above the door line. I would think an eclipse is more like my car than an M3 though when it comes to sun intrusion and heat retention. Moot point though I guess given the coolant temp control issues.

The FMIC is the big problem blocking air to the radiator, throw in the heat from the turbo and the heat from rthe condensor and viola....hot hot hot.

But, radiator is upgraded with a 170 tstat

Have you tried some ducting/shielding to force air to the radiator? DEI heat shiels, turbo blanket, etc?

I tried your mom.....

Turbo is wrapped and there is a heatshield on the turbo, ducting is pretty complicated with the ac condensor in place, but is on the to do list

Air has to pass through the FMIC, through a hot AC condensor 1/2 an inch from the radiator and then through the radiator. I don't think my under hood temps are the problem, I think its an airflow problem. So maybe do SMIC first then see what happens, and when its a dedicated track car remove the AC. Or remove the AC and keep the FMIC and see what happens?

I still say keep the a/c. Unless your going to trailer it to events during the summer it just isn't worth giving up the convenience for a little more time/little less weight. Keep it like it is, buy some good tires, and have fun with it.

I know some turbo guys have gained some ground with radiator panels on top and makeshift shields between the sides of the rad/IC, to not allow any air exiting rad to escape entering the IC.






Or put a NAWZZZ fogger on the rad

I didnt have problems with temps after I heatshielded, exhaust-wrapped the turbo and exhaust, then ducted the fmic to the radiator and sealed the radiator (I removed my a/c and never had an issue in 3.5 years of no a/c). I also had the radiator he now has in his car, no upgraded thermostat (a thermostat just brings it up to temperature, once your at your "Temperature" the thermostat does nothing to keep it even coler). I also eventually went oil cooler, and that was what solved my temp issues along with the RRE CarbonTrix hood Vent strategically located on the hood. But I also stupidly wanted to keep my fmic, which is a good 25-30lbs on the direct nose of the car. I should hvae just done smic.

The piping and lag might be horrible, but has anyone ever done a dual SMIC setup on a DSM?

Terminator guys who open track their cars have seen some impressive cooling gains by simply boxing in the radiator. I'd try that first before going without A/C. I know these are two completely different types of cars, but the supercharged 4V makes some serious heat as well (we also have a heat exchanger & A/C condenser in front of the radiator not to mention a small grill opening). Also if you can somehow vent your under hood air that will help to create a low pressure area behind the radiator helping to push air through it instead of around it. :dunno:
