So next April will mark 10 years since MM's inception. We've already casually discussed doing a party, but I was thinking we should do something more on the scale of a banquet. A banquet as big and badass as we can manage.
Banquet
Right now I'd say isn't too early to start formulating ideas so I figured I'd kick things off. The general idea I had was renting out a nice space somewhere in Harrisonburg to have a big dinner and party.
*Slide show on a projector during the event composed of the best pictures from members over the years
*A video put together of the history of MM, what it means to people, and where it's going
*Awards, speeches, commemorative party favors, etc.
Track Day
But I was talking to my gf yesterday and she suggested we do something at the track. Now obviously renting out a place like VIR or SP for a weekend would be cost prohibitive. But maybe we'd be able to rent something out for a Monday in May after school is out? Still expensive but not out of the realm of possibility.
The other possibility is that we could definitely rent the SP kart track for the day, even on a weekend. Or maybe have the banquet on one day and the karting day on another weekend.
Perhaps we could just call 2011 the MMX celebration and do a few very special events for the members rather than blowing our load all on one day. Thoughts?

I've been thinking about the big 10 year recently... and I really do want to have something cool in celebration.
Photos would be great, and I'm sure we could get a video put together. Jon (drifter w/the 240s) is a SMAD video major and has equipment to make somethin' good. I could help him out at least with getting shots of people. Also - I know there is video from the first autocross we hosted on the JMU campus. It's on feersty's YouTube and looks crappy. Anyone have the original VHS that could be re-digitized?
Commemorative t-shirts are sorta obligatory. Same for a massive group photo.
I think doing a banquet type of thing would be lots of fun. If we are going to get everyone together in Harrisonburg, I vote we go big or go home. Karting would be fun in May but let's do the banquet-y part during the school year for the most current student participation. Maybe in conjunction with the car show??

I'm with you. On the one hand, it would be awesome to rent the Festival ballroom for an evening on the JMU campus and have catered food and all that, but on the other it would be of course fitting to do something motorsport related like the SP kart thing. I'm in either way.
I like the idea of a banquet while everyone is still at school. Would give the best turnout for current students and it would be fitting to have the 10th anniversary of a JMU club at JMU. We looked into a banquet several years ago and to have it on campus we would have to use Aramark but from what I remember it wasn't horribly expensive to have them cater a meal.

Aramark is pretty decent at catering too; they catered a Beta Alpha Psi banquet a couple years ago for us. I'm digging the banquet idea; maybe followed by some sort of large cruise/photoshoot? I think a cruise would be most inclusive for all MM members, since some of us only drag race, autocross, or track race or have bikes. A cruise could include everyone...plus we could have a great 33 west photoshoot with all our cars/bikes to commemorate it.

Maybe a cruise before the banquet... I'm assuming the banquet would take place in the evening - but we could do a cruise either on 33/Skyline/Reddish Knob and take a great big photo, then do the banquet later in the day. I'm cool with Aramark catering, I think they do an OK job with it.
Goodspeed - you would probably know - if we do this on JMU property, what is the alcohol serving policy? OK as long as you're 21+ right?

I like the idea of a banquet, I think it'd be a lot of fun to see everybody.

Keep in mind that for the SP Kart Track we could certainly afford to rent it during the school year.

I think thats the case. I used to work at Festival in event setup (Justin may know as well, he did the same thing), and there were definitely SPEV-catered mini bars and alcohol. I don't remember everybody whipping out ID's, but regardless, since its JMU, the event must be catered in-house including booze.
maybe all meet at sp for karting, take a scenic route back to school, banquet/get crunk all night?

Lots of win for this. Would people from Richmound or places otherwise south of JMU be willing to go up to SPK and then back to JMU? Obviously hotels and crashing at students' places that night would be OK.

Do it on a Friday before a track weekend, then those that want could all migrate to the track. We could try to get all of us out, even if we haven't been at the track in a while, and show some of the newer MM guys around (That may not have been to or ridden at the track).
Would also work for an AutoX I suppose!

Scott Bradford and Ryan Madden are already working on T-shirts  I'm looking at getting one of the Festival Ballrooms and catering. Should not be too expensive.
Would anyone be opposed to uh, paying, for this banquet? I'm estimating about $25 a person - that would be food, t-shirt and a copy of whatever video(s) we put together on DVD.
