On a side note, the price of 7.62x39 and Im sure many other bullets/guns skyrocketed november 5th. Everyones going so crazy a lot of places are sold out of 7.62x39(I spent 3 hours looking to find it at $5.17 a box). Everyone knows what Obama is going to do so everyone is in a mad rush to buy before he takes office.

7.62X39 has been going up since the steel-core ammo was made illegal for import. That's the shit you used to be able to get for pennies a round.

Since I bought the SKS, WWB or Wolf has always been the cheapest, and it's not that cheap. 5 bucks a box is pricey, but not outrageous. If you pay less than $.25/round, you're doing just fine.

True but 3 weeks ago it was $4 for a box of wolf most places. Now its atleast $6 on most sites and and mostly sold out. I cant afford to buy in bulk right now so its annoying having it go up by 30-50% over night. Ill give it another 2 months to come back down though. $5 a box isnt horrible, but my dad laughs at me because he used to be able to buy it for like $2-3 a box at gun shows not that long ago. :?

All right so some more AR-15 questions. There are a couple of different version with different calibers of ammunition (I've seen .40, 5.45, and the 223). What are the pros and cons of the different calibers? Which one(s) will have the cheapest ammo and most available parts? I assume 223 will have the most parts and ammo but where do the other ones line up? And I presume the smaller caliber will be accurate up to a greater range. Anything else you guys can tell me?

Anyway, allow me to quote myself:

It's an excellent defense of civilian possession of an automatic (I tend to use "machine gun" as the law does when referring to "one-trigger-pull:many bullets" firearms) centerfire rifles.

As gerald mentioned (and Evan made an excellent metaphor for) the Second Amendment is NOT about hunting. It's also not just about overthrowing a tyrannical government, it's about the common man being responsible for common defense: the unorganized militia, who in the end is responsible for his own safety, and, if he chooses, the safety of his neighbors.
