The sky starts at $25k, sky redline is $30k. Ouch... I really want to go drive one but i'm afraid of what I might do if I like it  I need another lunchbox...

Evan Wrote:I also said 'coupe'
as in bigger than a convertible. with a backseat. hell, make it a 5 door like is all the rage now.

A RWD 5 door. Yeah, right. I've had people ask me why I didn't get the sedan 3 because "Who wants a station wagon?"

Nevermind that I can't get a 260hp 3 sedan, OR that the 5 door looks a million times better OR that a Buick Roadmaster is a station wagon, not a Mazda 3.

You guys are smoking crack. The only person that would make such a thing already does and already said they'll never sell it here. Even on the Continent a small RWD Hatch is a rare bird, and not for no reason. What makes you think that Americans, who like their cars as big as they can afford, would be any different?

ScottyB Wrote:i'd want a coupe that was simple. i hate how everything these days has to be leather wrapped, puffy plastic covered, fly by wire, insulated and isolated. let the bare painted metal show in the cockpit. make the assist minimal on all controls. no electronic BS. as a bonus, it would be cheaper that way

You want that? Build one! Screw waiting for one and/or getting bunched up panties in the process, head over to Factory 5 and have yours for under 25k complete. I'm really surprised no one in MM has done this yet Confusedhock:

Evan Wrote:I think we are seeing a resurgance of RWD. The new chryslers are RWD (only because they are based off last gen Mercedes, but regardless) the sport compact market is over fwd and into awd and rwd.
The ONLY sense fwd makes is for platform engineering. And since now the automakers have viable rwd platforms, I think we should see some downmarket rwd econo coupes. fuck the regurgitated "stick a slightly bigger engine in a fwd shitbox" formula that has been done until vomit inducing.

You're only seeing a resurgance in the more expensive "performance" cars. You know, the ones that business men buy to add some excitement to their sad little lives. I think the sport compact has tasted awd but the MS3 is proof that they're not over FWD. I'd agree that the market should have reached saturation of FWD a long time ago but it just doesn't seem to be the case. Let's face it, the sport compact market is pretty young and when they're buying it with their parents money, their parents want FWD 'cause it's safe.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Evan Wrote:Will Mazda build something like the 3 seat concept a couple years ago based off the RX-8/MX-5 platform?

I don't know about 3 seats, but I sure would love to see an RX7 again. Just a smaller, lighter version of the RX8. Same exact engine. But 2500lbs. No option for leather or sat/nav or 18 inch wheels. Maybe a lightly boosted version too for silly people who think that wouldn't be fast enough. And if it were me, unpainted, dyed plastic skin and no power steering. Smile

Make it cheap enough that it'd be a good sporty grocery getter, or a weekend fun, 2nd car, or a great first car for a teen and I think it'd sell to a wide variety of people.

Can we make one if they won't? Call it the MMX?

Well.... it doesn't HAVE to kill people. I'm flexible on that.

*edit*
Scotty, sketch an MMX for us! It would be a short, small 2dr 2+2 coup├®. Not too overstyled to avoid turning someone off. No silly hood scoop, no rear wing, small wheels, clean. But defiantly some kind of fender flares. It could even be a little boxy, ie, easier to manufacture, with some flat(ish?) panels maybe. I'm thinking.... Mitsu Starion, but maybe not a hatch, not sure, I guess it could be?

Extra points will be awarded for subtly working the MM's in there. M-spoke wheels? Ms in the grill? If not, we can always have a good looking badge, or stitch it into the headrests.
