To any car people interested in a sweet job after graduation:
Evan Kays Wrote:I just finished up at JMU in May[2006]. I had a pretty lame job for the first six months out of school and then a JMU professor I was in contact with hooked me up with DaimlerChrysler. I started with them two weeks ago and our HR guy asked me if I knew car people at JMU looking for a job after graduation. I told him no, but that I would keep an eye out. If anyone is interested please shoot me an email. I feel like I really lucked out finding out with this job and I'd like to hook up a couple JMU kids if possible. Here's a little bit about the job...
They are looking for district managers. There are two types, sales district managers and service district managers. They have a lot of candidates interested in the sales side but they are really looking for car people that can at least sort of talk the talk with service writers and techs in the dealerships. A service district manager oversees the service departments in 15-20 dealerships. They are responsible for helping the dealer principal to market the service center, assist in finding opportunities for profit, and handling some of the major customer relation issues. If you are in to cars, want to stay out of an office, but still want a corporate type job this is probably for you. They are looking for people graduating this spring.
They pay a competitive salary (40-60k) and the give you a cell, laptop, and CAR!!!! They gave me a loaded Charger R/T with the 340hp Hemi and last week they gave me my choice of SRT8's for my next car. They are currently paying for my hotel and food while I'm here in Baltimore training. Dream job.
This email is getting long, but basically I'm trying to hook up JMU people with this job. This is a personal email from me rather than a message from DaimlerChrysler so don't refence it when talking to someone from the company. If you're interested give me a call, IM, email, or Facebook me. At that point I can tell you more about the job, help you out with you resume, and/or get you in touch with our HR guy. They are hiring now so don't wait if you are interested. Let me know. I want to help.

I actually went to the career fair to talk to the daimler chrysler guys and what major and specifics they were looking for. Although I am not graduating yet I would love to get my foot in the door. Do you know if they are looking for interships? I of course dont need salary and benefits, just some pay and a foot in the door.

Are you kidding Feerst? Chrysler? Those turds that cofounded Diamond Star Motors? I wouldn't rock one of those pieces of crap on track let alone work for them.

This isn't an attack. If you can't trust those guys to make a decent car you deff can't work for them. Right Feerst? Ford4Life!

PS: This shit is too good to be true. I never bash Feerst (not even when he goes off half cocked against DSMs) and he never starts a super useful thread. Today we both did things a little different and if the rest of MM fails to see this...well that is just too bad.

haha, so true. good call feersty. while i find it hard that they would hire a new college grad to put in the position of a district service manager, if it happens and an MMer benefits, that would be awesome. this has jeff's name written all over it if he were graduating.

A friend of mine is a district manager for some plumbing supply chain. He's a complete retard and a drunk so who knows...
Two feet.
It sounds like a decent opportunity to get into that industry, but why is the kid pushing it so hard? Maybe he's getting kickbacks from DC for bringing in new recruits?
I mean I like my job and all and I encourage people to consider the industry but I'm not sweating ppls nuts over it. And I do get a bonus from my company if I refer someone who becomes an employee.
Btw 40-60k is a huge pay range heh.

Getting into the auto industry sounds pretty cool, and there can be some rewarding jobs, but make sure you know what you're getting yourself into before you sign up... as an engineer you can get stuck designing door handles, or even as a test engineer you can be stuck doing reliability testing in death valley in the summertime in a ford focus.
I was offered a job as a service writer for a BMW dealer when I got out of school, and while the pay and dealership was good the hours were rediculous - close to 70 hrs/week was the usual schedule and I just didnt want to get into something that hectic. My dad has been a master tech for.. well.. forever and has been at the same dealership for 15+ years - its tough work.

just keep your preferences in mind and don't be completely blinded by the opportunity to work in the automotive industry. pay attention to monetary compensation, benefits, growth, location(s), travel, hours, and the actual work that you'll be doing
DJ, the guy at the internship fair said no internships I'm gonna look into doing something like this when I graduate. I would rather do this for a few years then go strait into being stuck in Woodstock for the rest of my life.
