Do it RJ. You won't. Ur a sissy. DO IT. I heard Jessica in English class saying she thought you were cute but didn't have the guts to buy an old Porsche so she won't go out with you.

My wife said 'do whatever you want"

I dont think she has an idea how dangerous that statement is. I warned her. Then she said it again...

You have a roughly 30k budget either for one car or two.  What would you buy given these requirements?
  • Nothing newer than 5 years old, I don't like depreciation
  • One car must have enough room to carry a bunch of camping shit (fold down rear seats and decent trunk at the minimum)
  • AWD/4WD isn't 100% necessary, but it's preferable on at least one
  • Not interested in a totally boring daily driver
  • Somewhat reliable is preferred.  I own an old WRX and M3 right now so I have some tolerance.  I'd just prefer at least one car that I don't have to work on regularly.
  • One car must be something sporty and >300hp
  • One option can be keep the E46 M3 and buy a different daily. In this case, take away roughly half the budget listed above.
I haven't decided on whether or not I want to keep the M3 yet.  The subaru is going away in the spring for sure.  I'm pretty sure I know what I'm replacing it with, but I want to see if there are any other cool options I'm not thinking of.

All signs point to a B8 Audi S4.

With an APR tune you get 400+ hp.

That's definitely something I haven't thought of.  Cheaper than I would have guessed too.  Although they are pretty heavy (3900 lbs)

That would fall under the no totally boring daily driver requirement.

Edit: After looking into the B8 S4 a little, it looks like they run a 12.5 or so with the stage 1 software. Decently quick, but the weight is definitely taking its toll.

My most likely course of action at this point is to keep the M3 and get a 2012/2013 Golf R with the stage 2+ pieces (downpipe, fuel pump, tune). This will also run about a 12.5 or so with about 330whp and it's much lighter. These are apparently also perfectly reliable at that power level as long as you keep up with changing the cam follower every 10k or so. Luckily its a cheap part and only a 20 minute job.

I am open to other options though.
