MM Spring Car Show 2015 - Planning Thread

MM is not a charity - never has been. Every year we raise money for a charity of the officer's choosing. Revenue from the show covers MM's cost and the remainder is donated.

Well, MM donates a portion to a charity. The car show is the main profit-driver for the club each year so a chunk, at least in the past, has been kept to help get things rolling in the fall.

I'm gonna be real MM is the farthest thing from a charity but i mean i'm also 100% with just rolling with it for profit$

Pretty sure that the charity comment was intended to be a joke...since you know, it's not actually a charity. Jeeze, you guys take things so seriously :dunno: lol

I think it was discussed awhile ago that maybe MM should pocket some more of the proceeds since it could help alleviate some of the financial burden on next year's officer. Donating is cool but giving away 100% of the "profits" if that's what you want to call it is a little much in my opinion.

Yeah I think Jake is right. Now that I think about it, I think dan and I covered MM, costs kept like 15%, and donated the rest to the charity.

Seriously though, it was discussed last year. MM should definitely keep some of it. We do all of this work, then still scrounge around for the rest of the year.

Damn I donated 100% last year, wish I would've known to keep some proceeds. I'm sure you guys could've used that extra cash at the beginning of the semester. I think after our cost we raised $1400 or something like that for Bipolar Aware last year.

FWIW I think we did a 50/50 split with MM and the charity the years Jake and I did money. Maybe we were super off base and that's why the group after us is the only one who had any money to start out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think 50/50 is a good split. Maybe even MM keep more if the show doesnt make thay much.

But we didnt really have enough money when we started out David Smile

I seem like the bearer of bad news or the person who has to be that guy on the forums but the event wasn't filed for charity this year. Doesn't mean later we can't do it. But, in light of the karting situation I think the extra money would be nice. Yeah, it is great to support a charity and have most of the time but that isn't the "point" of the car show.

Ryan, are you from a different planet? Have you chosen to ignore every single MM car show that has ever happened?

Tyler, there was discussion a few pages back about campus events being charity-driven or not, and some rule changes around that this year. So, it's not entirely an officer-driven idea. I think something came down from JMU as well.

If we can do some portion to a charity, great. If not, no biggie. The point is to get people out for a show and an autocross, so let's focus on that.

You guys follow to many rules. It's not like anyone from jmu staff audits the books or comes to the car show. You can give money to whoever you want. If you don't want to do a charity donation this year so be it but jmu isn't stopping you.

I get that the rules change but for the last several years, charity has been a central part of the show. Not only is it a good thing, it helps bring in sponsors and brings in the Harrisonburg community by opening up the audience.

In Ryan's defense we as officers all agreed on this, partially because we're dead broke every year. So I guess that makes all three of us from Mars or somewhere. Not sure about law changes maybe the other two can fill you in on that.

Tyler I know Ryan already asked, but lets calm down a little. Go blow off some steam and take that GTO for a mountain run and see how it handles turns in preparation for your auto x. We get it that you along with everyone else wants whats best for the club and the car show. And agreed we were behind and caught criticism for it which mostly we took constructively which resulted in us working around Debbie and getting the lot on the date we wanted. We are all working our asses off around classes and in Ryan's case a job too in order to make this a great car show. We believe we can make this car show just as great or even better than previous ones with or without a charity. So stop bitching after each update we do and suggesting us to step down from a few pages ago. We got the lot and date which is favorable to most paired with an auto x (thank you DJ and Ray). When its all said and done and we are looking back on this show and this year we understand everything wasn't perfect and we were late in planning but it will still be a very successful year. So lets all calm down and go watch jeopardy or whatever grumpy alumni do this time of night.

Sorry for the rant. Enjoy your nights

You guys, a little bit of professionalism in your responses to us would greatly affect the way we respond back to you. If you're fed up with our attitude you need to drop yours first. You're the officers, leaders in here so start acting like it. You all seriously need to learn how to handle taking advice and handle the "pressure" of people who are in the dark and asking for answers, who have also done this before and are continuously told about all these "new" things that keep popping up. When its this close to the deadline we will put on the pressure and sound heated and thats because of our concern, if you know thats why we sound like that then why don't you drop the sass when you pick up the keyboard? Y'all need to find that level headedness somewhere in there and hold on to it.

Also if Ryan is pressured maybe he should reach out to students, I already told him to tell us what he wants us to help with and I didn't get much of an answer other spread the word about the show. (And believe me we're all doing that. In full force.) So i'm gonna assume he's got it covered over his regularly scheduled programs.
