what does everyone think of the Ruger SR9?

I held it in the gun store (not fired)
I really wanted to like it since its a 'modern' design striker fired slim pistol for a great price, but it just felt too skinny like it was moving around in my hands.
ymmv, IIRC Guns&Ammo raved about the gun, online reviews are pretty solid, but some say its not the most accurate gun

Well a .40 is good enough for most police departments to use. If they trust it to take down a bad guy, I trust it also. Not that there arent better rounds out there, but I think it gets the job done. And ammo is pretty cheap to go target shooting with it. When I eventually buy a handgun, it will be more for fun. Until then, I have plenty of fun with my dads assortment of glocks (9mm, .40, .45 ACP) To be honest, I doubt Ill be shooting someone in the civilian world.

Now when Im commissioned in the army thats another story... But we'll see.

I'm not saying it's not a competent round, most police forces use it and I certaintly would trust it to take somebody down, I just don't personally like it.

see...i've heard/read differently. i've heard it's a fairly accurate gun out of the box. how would you compare it to a glock?

Everyone always brings up glocks... and well I have never really been fully impressed by glocks... i just think there are a lot better options out there....

Everyone always brings up glocks... and well I have never really been fully impressed by glocks... i just think there are a lot better options out there....

They only bring them up because they are so accurate, reliable, and easy to clean.

25k rounds and still thumping. Used, abused, at barrel life, and i havent had a jam in it since before round 500.... 24.5k rounds of flawless, clean it when i feel like it (i just cleaned it after 4 years of letting it sit)... dead on reliable.

(The 10mm is in the middle, surrounded by it's children, the .357SIG and the 10MM Short and Weak [aka .40S&W] )

I fucking love the 10mm. It's perfect. Mild recoil (for a Magnum) designed from the ground up to be an automatic cartridge, and absurd stopping power. The 10MM is awesome, and it *should* be the ultimate auto cartridge round.

Chew on this for a minute:

200 Grain Bullet @ ~1300 FPS
750 Ft-lbs of energy

That's awesome!

Nah. It's 50 cents more a box than .45ACP. For almost 200 more ft-lbs of energy. You can't buy it in Wal-Mart, but any gun store that carries ammo will carry 10mm Auto also.

Plus, it's freakin' awesome. Between the 10mm and the .357SIG, the .40S&W makes no sense at all.

Well tell me if you want to sell it. That's exactly what's on gunbroker in VA right now but in crizzome :!: I like folding stocks.

Eh, I should probably get a 12ga next honestly. But for a rifle, I think I'd choose the AK over the AR.... uh, for really no reason at all, I've done so little research on either. :lol:

But for half the $, there's this Charles Daly one with rifle sites, which is a good thing IMHO:



Any feedback on Charles Daly? Or does anyone know of a good price on any of these? I can't find too many discouraging comments online, just decent reviews. And even if the quality isn't quite as good, I'm ok with that when the list price is ~$260. If I can find someone that has one in stock.... Then it's pistol grip and folding stock time! (though I haven't found a straight answer on what accessories fit the Daly.... so any feedback on that would be nice too)

I have a charles daly in a youth model that I shoot trap with. I love it, I've not had one problem with it and I haven't cleaned it in like months, I've probably put easily 1000 rounds through it and have never had a problem. They are relatively inexpensive and I wouldn't be afraid to get another one.
