ScottyB Wrote:thanks...yeah im thinking a filter too. wish i knew someone that carried a red bulb that would fit. maybe if i spray paint the bulb red....

Red Sharpie, tried it with a blue one on my gauges didnt do to bad, but went with blue LEDs instead. Stop by Circuit City and get a 4pack Streetglow led in red, and hard wire it in your gauges, thats what i did.....like the grill to

Filter for an air line? Can someone explain that to me? IT seems more like that you dont have it secured properly or the crush washer that the line got into is too crushed and isnt providing a good seal. I had to replace my crush washer and I never hear anything from my boost gauge...

i used a screw in hose barb and a wire tie with rubber hose???? you guys are usin that shitty plastic line that came with the gauge i guess?

that's a yes to the shitty plastic line. bummer too, it was a PITA to route through the dash and 2 firewalls so i'd rather not replace it...oh well

as for the filter, to cure the buzzing problem alot of people will put a small fuel filter inline and it cures the problem. i think some company sells a tiny buzz elimator thingy too, same concept but smaller than a fuel filter.

edit: here is the buzz eliminator

sounds like a bandaid to a real leak, just a thoiught.

Oh Autometers came with little covers on them in different colors to change the bulb covers, get one of those.

I used hard emissions hose, a COMPLETE pain in the ass to run and hook up, but it will never get crimped and will never blow off.

it's not a leak, its the pulses coming from the intake resonations that cause the buzzing. alot of people deal with the same problem when it comes to boost gauges.

i'll have to look into that hard emmisions stuff though

damn, never heard of that of all my time spent on mr2 and dsm turbo forums. Where are you guys tapping your boost gauges, maybe thats the problem? We tap into our fpr lines which are supposed to be the most accurate on the car.

old grille for reference

no, the front plate cannot come back off, the holes left from my VA plate look haggard (ref. picture does not do justice to this). the picture makes it look kinda goofy but it's pretty bitchin in real life. i'm going to try to swap my quattro badge onto the new grille to give it just a little somethin'. i think i'm done with the exterior now

bit the bullet tonight and got me a little A8 goodness. (the "OE big brake kit", plain rotors)

the A8 rotors are 312mm compared to my stock 288mm. a TT caliper carrier is then used to relocate the carrier. it'll juuuust fit under my 16" wheels.

i'll give you guys a comparison shot to see the size difference but it's fairly decent.

in other news, my !$#%*& clutch is slipping again. so now i can slow down fast but i can't speed up fast. :? yay germany

didn't you just fix that recently? (I'm too lazy to check) Sounds to me like something was botched in the install, since there is no way you've worn it out already. I know you were upset about shelling out all that dough, so I really hope you can get it remedied quickly and easily.

Any warranty options on the clutch?

about the warranty...i dont' think so, although i'm still looking. it's a "wear part" so i'm not sure how things work with that.

basically, the stock clutch can last a long time, but heat is notorious for totally killing it fast...and heat is all there is down here. i never launch it, take off from from stops with minimal rpm's and slipping, and rev match every downshift so i dunno. i guess the heat just rocked it.

i wanted a better clutch so badly at the time but i just didn't have the funds. i'm really kicking myself now, but this thing won't see any high performance duty for a while so i'll limp around with what i got.

that really blows Scotty. I've neard about a car's clutch suffering from ambient heat though, I'd figure that it would be referring to something to do with the car or proximity of the tranny to the exhaust.

thanks dawg. at first i was like, "meh" but it's really grown on me.

after pulling out my old reciepts, thankfully my clutch is covered 12k miles/12 months, and right now i'm at like 10k miles and 9 months. i'm going to see if there is a budget upgrade path i can take, because this weak ass stock clutch and heavy flywheel are getting old with me.

A8 rotors to go on next week (and maybe new clutch) while i'm in between jobs...yay for impromptu vacations! boo for having to drive the exploder in the meantime....

car is back and healthy. when my clutch was replaced last year, i went with some advice from other MM'ers and had them do the rear main seal while they were in there. sure enough, that new seal pooped out for some odd reason and was leaking oil all over the clutch disc...thus, the slippage. i had noticed my car was leaking something (thought it was just grease that was getting hot and dripping) and now i know.

so, new clutch disc, new TO bearing, and new (older model - more reliable) rear main seal all under warranty. whew! i was starting to go nuts driving the explorer.

hopefully tommorow will be the A8 brakes and maybe the fuel filter if i'm feeling really generous. but first, i need to wash the greasy handprints off my car....... Tongue
