MM Spring Car Show 2015 - Planning Thread

The reason there is a BRR autocross scheduled for Verona on April 12 is to support the MM car show on April 11. When DJ reached out to me, BRR did not have an April date set. I went to the BRR board and lobbied for the date.

The idea of having both events on the same weekend would provide the opportunity for a richer experience for people attending the car show. I also arranged for reduced cost SCCA weekend membership for anyone who did both events. From the SCCA side it chance to get an audience of people who already like cars and driving, and expose them to an accessible and safe form of motorsport. If some of those people continue in the sport all the better. It seemed like a classic win-win situation to me.

My discussion with Ray. There was never an indication that the date was set, nor did Ray inform me at the time that he would have to set up the April 12th date. I was under the assumption that him saying: "BRR will be in Verona on March 21-22 and April 12" meant that, thats when they would already be there :wink:

Have you been contacted by any MM officers regarding scheduling and planning an MM car show on a BRR-SCCA weekend? If not, please let me know, would like to work with you to help get a good weekend going.

Dj Fitzpatrick Ray, I have proposed an April 11th weekend for the MM show and sent it on to Sam Spicer and Ryan Herold on the forums. There may be conflicts, but it looks like a good date. For promotional details, can we have permission to use the SCCA autox the next day in our posts/flyers?

You are still missing the point. EVEN with us pushing on you guys, it is the last week in February, 2 months after the beginning of the semester and less than 6 weeks away from the "proposed date"; and you haven't set a date. If you had contacted Ray early on, contacted Debbie early on, none of this would be an issue.

If you waited till a date was set in stone to even contact Ray, you wouldn't even know the date to aim for and instead would have AGAIN missed another opportunity.

Today's update
Got the confirmation for parking services on getting C4 on the 11th, then had to talk to Debbie which reluctantly she agreed to the 11th since I was able to clear it with other people. Paperwork has been submitted and now we just need to get it back from those who "approve" us or not.

I was saying that Sam is going to try to contact a guy he knows about making flyers tonight. The guy has made some posters for car events before. I will try to update the front page. Just waiting on my homie Jake from State Farm for admin access to WordPress.

Don't forget that you need to design it, if you haven't already. I would start reaching to some of the past people (I don't have the files, my old computer crashed). If you need help with the front page call me and I can walk through with what I remember.

If Sam didn't make this clear enough in his post. We as officers are saying the car show is the 11th. It would be nearly impossible to be a different date unless an unforseen circumstance comes in such as if someone with "higher priority" comes along then we get oust... Scheduling and parking services approved. We as officers just have to do some extra things like food, safety class, etc... but that won't inhibit the date.

Are you talking about the flier in the front page post? It's just a static image done in PS. We stuck it there and also used it to make handouts. I thought I did last year's but I can't find the PS template files anywhere on my PC. Maybe I did 2013 and someone else did 2014?

I believe I did last years but my computer crashed and I didn't have any backups of it unfortunately. I think I do have some of the essentials, though. Like the MM .png and Steven Toyota (if you want to go that route). I also have Bipolar Aware if you all still want to use them as a charity.

That's how we did it and it was free.

We are getting the design from him to post online and use for printing. We aren't actually printing from him.

Don't know what your plans are for charity but a good friend of mine, who is a JMU alum, works for PPMD. Might be nice to support them - just a thought. I can provide contact info if you guys want to go that route.

Also, Steven Toyota, The Ferrari Club of America, and Big Dogs Offroad (RTI ramp) have been contacted. Hopefully we can get them onboard.

MM is not a charity - never has been. Every year we raise money for a charity of the officer's choosing. Revenue from the show covers MM's cost and the remainder is donated.
