It serves both purposes actually. When I was out in the field, the VA and Federal DEQ were just as strict about erosion / sediment control guidelines as OSHA was about jobsite safety.

sediment control is more about pollution and not particulate buildup from what i understand.

it seems sand is a little bit less of a serious issue than something like topsoil or cement. still an issue, but i doubt we're gonna be overun by a river turning into a delta due to sand in the winter.

edit: erosion control can be taken two ways though IMO, both to prevent foundations washing away and also river pollution to an extent.

Erosion has much larger effects than getting dirt/silt/sand into rivers. Most of the problems created by erosion have nothing to do with being anywhere near a river.

Bingo. Which is why when my dad's logging crews go out to chop down the forest they STILL have to erect those barriers when they get near steep grades. There isn't a river or creek around for MILES....they don't want the top soil washing away b/c if it does it makes it 10x harder to get new trees to grow when they replant.

And FWIW, next time it snows, I'm going to put 200lbs of salt on the drive way instead of just 100lb's. I'm going to call the extra 100lbs 'Salt for Mikey'.

maybe you didn't notice "and nothing else." people who have trucks for valid reasons (you tow a car) can drive them whenever they damn well please for all i care, it doesn't make sense to buy a vehicle and only use it for one purpose. if a truck has a tow hitch on the back of it, that tow hitch has wear, and you drive the truck to the supermarket? good for you. the bitch who i work with who has a giant durango (yes, that's an actual model) to only tote her 3 y/o around in? i fucking hate her guts.
