Snow in NoVA/DC?MD
#1
Just to let you guys know, the conditions seems to be pretty bad for the little snow there is. I tried to brake for an intersection on a slight downhill and just did a 1mph slide down the hill. I saw maybe 10 cars in the ditch on Braddock road so in summation, "Be safe."

I think a lot of people got "caught out" today. We were out for the last 3-4 hours running errands and in the beginning people were driving slow enough that it was actually pretty dangerous. We're talking 15 mph on Route 7 when the conditions safely allowed 45 mph. I really didn't expect there to be so many people out but judging by the way they were freaking out I think they didn't really expect any snow.

The main roads weren't really treated until later in the day but it was less than an inch so things weren't that bad as long as you were smooth. A heard a woman say "Well as soon as you start to slide it's all over" which was fairly amusing. I'm convinced that everyone should be required to do some sort of track day to learn to be smooth and the limits of car control. I could definitely break it lose fairly easily but it wasn't like I couldn't turn or stop if I wanted. A GTI and I had some fun at that big 90┬░ turn by my house. Big Grin

On another note, the ABC store was doing some solid business today.

The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Yeah, they do seem pretty bad for the amount of snow there is... the roads are going to be covered in snow-away shit now. *tear*

drove the gti (with falken azenis) to jmu from nova in the middle of the storm. I was an idiot and had no idea it was comming. passes over 50 cars wrecked or stuck on 81 ( majority of them suv's and truck with 4x4) about 10 of em flipped. It was pretty scary actually.. did about 25 mph the whole way not hitting the gas or brake for anything.

im surprised i made it home ok.. understanding your car and its abilities truely helps in situations like this.

people are stupid, I had no idea it was suppose to snow today, so we loaded up in the truck for the monthly Sams club run, started out, nice day, little cold, got about 1/2 way to sams and it started to flurry. Once we got there it was coming down a little, not much. The place was MOBED. We shopped for about an hour and went to cehckout, lines were 10 people deep, once we got outside it was really coming down, people driving all slow and shit, I just wanted to run them over, tools. We have about 1/2" here right now and it's still coming, I swear, if we get 1" by 10pm I'm going to do some plowing!

We actually got enough that I was able to snowblow the driveway. A wide driveway is cool until you have to shovel it. I only made one pass before I switched to something with a motor.

It's raining now so that should make for a nice morning commute.

My parents left for a little bit and there were incidents on Rolling and Old Keene Mill so they turned around and came home. I don't know why everyone decided to go out. I never left today.

I'm surprised people freaked out so much over an inch of snow, usually people in VA aren't THAT bad at snow driving. It's not like when it snows in north carolina or further south that sees snow once every 3 years.

NH is making me really good at snow driving though, considering anytime I drive anywhere I have to do it in the snow. It's like living at camp drifto.

you're not serious, are you? your driveway is ~15ft long, 2 cars wide, and we only got ~1".

Yeah I'm serious... it's probably close to 500 sqft and we got ~3" way out here in the boonies. No shame in my game.

I also did the sidewalk from around the corner to the end of the row, if that matters.
