Snow in NoVA/DC?MD - Andy - 01-21-2007 Just to let you guys know, the conditions seems to be pretty bad for the little snow there is. I tried to brake for an intersection on a slight downhill and just did a 1mph slide down the hill. I saw maybe 10 cars in the ditch on Braddock road so in summation, "Be safe." - .RJ - 01-21-2007 4wd = invincible - Beej - 01-21-2007 Yeah even though the majority of people are morons, I had a blast. - Apoc - 01-21-2007 I think a lot of people got "caught out" today. We were out for the last 3-4 hours running errands and in the beginning people were driving slow enough that it was actually pretty dangerous. We're talking 15 mph on Route 7 when the conditions safely allowed 45 mph. I really didn't expect there to be so many people out but judging by the way they were freaking out I think they didn't really expect any snow. The main roads weren't really treated until later in the day but it was less than an inch so things weren't that bad as long as you were smooth. A heard a woman say "Well as soon as you start to slide it's all over" which was fairly amusing. I'm convinced that everyone should be required to do some sort of track day to learn to be smooth and the limits of car control. I could definitely break it lose fairly easily but it wasn't like I couldn't turn or stop if I wanted. A GTI and I had some fun at that big 90┬░ turn by my house. On another note, the ABC store was doing some solid business today. - Ginger - 01-21-2007 Yeah, they do seem pretty bad for the amount of snow there is... the roads are going to be covered in snow-away shit now. *tear* - Mike - 01-21-2007 s2k can't budge... bj's car was surprisingly good, though. - Evan - 01-21-2007 got stuck half way up a hill when another car killed my momenutm. Spun the wheels at lot, turned around, slid down the hill and slid off the road a bit. normally 50/50 weight + lsd + allseasons are good in the snow i dont feel too bad though because i saw a few 4wd SUVs and trucks stuck - HAULN-SS - 01-21-2007 Im going to the grocery store in a bit, gonna see how it is over here. - CaptainHenreh - 01-21-2007 I went out, no big deal. 4WD works, hooray. - BLINGMW - 01-21-2007 I'll be interested to see if the 318 and its nearly bald tires can even get out of the driveway tomorrow morning, we have a nice layer of ice at this point.... - BLAIR - 01-21-2007 drove the gti (with falken azenis) to jmu from nova in the middle of the storm. I was an idiot and had no idea it was comming. passes over 50 cars wrecked or stuck on 81 ( majority of them suv's and truck with 4x4) about 10 of em flipped. It was pretty scary actually.. did about 25 mph the whole way not hitting the gas or brake for anything. im surprised i made it home ok.. understanding your car and its abilities truely helps in situations like this. - white_2kgt - 01-21-2007 people are stupid, I had no idea it was suppose to snow today, so we loaded up in the truck for the monthly Sams club run, started out, nice day, little cold, got about 1/2 way to sams and it started to flurry. Once we got there it was coming down a little, not much. The place was MOBED. We shopped for about an hour and went to cehckout, lines were 10 people deep, once we got outside it was really coming down, people driving all slow and shit, I just wanted to run them over, tools. We have about 1/2" here right now and it's still coming, I swear, if we get 1" by 10pm I'm going to do some plowing! - PDenbigh - 01-21-2007 [quote="Evan" i dont feel too bad though because i saw a few 4wd SUVs and trucks stuck[/quote] I am willing to bet money they didn't know how to put them in 4 wheel drive ;-). Silly city folk! - Beej - 01-21-2007 Mike Wrote:s2k can't budge... bj's car was surprisingly good, though. The red car that is...but we just had a moment in the STi. Bald RE070's are awful. - Apoc - 01-21-2007 We actually got enough that I was able to snowblow the driveway. A wide driveway is cool until you have to shovel it. I only made one pass before I switched to something with a motor. It's raining now so that should make for a nice morning commute. - Feersty - 01-21-2007 My parents left for a little bit and there were incidents on Rolling and Old Keene Mill so they turned around and came home. I don't know why everyone decided to go out. I never left today. - Hunter - 01-21-2007 I'm surprised people freaked out so much over an inch of snow, usually people in VA aren't THAT bad at snow driving. It's not like when it snows in north carolina or further south that sees snow once every 3 years. NH is making me really good at snow driving though, considering anytime I drive anywhere I have to do it in the snow. It's like living at camp drifto. - Mike - 01-21-2007 Apoc Wrote:We actually got enough that I was able to snowblow the driveway. A wide driveway is cool until you have to shovel it. No shame in my game. I also did the sidewalk from around the corner to the end of the row, if that matters. - Mike - 01-21-2007 Apoc Wrote:I also did the sidewalk from around the corner to the end of the row, if that matters. alright, alright, good samaritan points. i'm likely stuck in our driveway for a day or two |
