That's totally fine, it's your right as an American. The state won't mind either, they pay attorneys to do just that. Either way, whether you beat it or not you're out at least $500, if not over $1000 if you get convicted.

He came highly recommended from two of the traffic court judges - which I am assuming will help. Whatever, he already has my first date pushed out to December 30 which is way more than I could have gotten on my own I'm sure. Not to mention I'm going to assume that's a date that the officer will hate trying to make.

Exactly, I don't blame the officers for doing their jobs. I've also gotten two speeding tickets that I didn't mention because I was completely in the wrong and I deserved them.
What I'm bitching about is the laws that ended up in me receiving a parking ticket for a used, non-running car that I had purchased less than 24 hours ago and was currently in the process of registering when I received a ticket. It was also in a parking space in my apt complex, not on an actual public street.
I'm also bullshit over the muffler modification law in VA. Like I said a factory fresh diesel work truck or Harley Davidson is a lot louder than my modified BMW, but they're legal and I'm not. That law makes as much sense as a soup fuckin' sandwich.

And if you have foglights, turn signals, they have to work, but it you don't then oh whatever no problem. :dunno:
I have to think it's an enforcement problem really. It's annoying as hell for people like us, but from the state's perspective, doing what you wish would mean officers would need a method for determining sound levels. It's a lot simpler and more enforceable to say, "if it was there it has to work and you cannot modify it", rather than determining and maintaining all the exceptions that might be ok.
Heck, we have enough trouble enforcing what we actually DO have on the books in VA. Basically suspension modifications are illegal, but I don't see a lot of lifted trucks getting pulled over or failing inspection. Though really, out of all the modifications you could do and get cited for, that one actually does create a safety issue. But they're worried about tint and exhaust and tag lights :evileye:
*edit* speaking of exceptions, as I'm scanning over the section on suspension inspections:

Reject vehicle if steering wheel movement exceeds:
Power - 2 inches
Manual - 3 inches
Rack & Pinion - (Power or Manual) - 0.4 inch - see note
NOTE: No play is permissible for Volkswagen and Audi vehicles - consult respective manufacturer's specifications.
wtf?
A) What fool thinks any inspection station can accomplish this multi-page checklist in a reasonable amount of time.
B) VW steering has to be fuckin TIGHT. I'd love to know how this note got added and all other cars get a pass.

you're misreading that perhaps..manufacturers specs might allow 6" of play? TWSS
