Then just drive clapped E30s.

Would you ever consider an unreliable V10 like that, if it had the extended warranty?
PenFed was about $1,500 extra for my Route66 warranty. Could pay for itself and give you peace of mind, or could be a waste. Just an idea.

No, 100% no, and no again.
The potential for breaking shit when removing the drivetrain for any unscheduled maintenance is too high, assuming there is a tech available thats trained to work on it. And parts available.

My reading has led me to believe that most VW dealers don't even know that motor exists. Can only imagine parts are unobtainium.

Yeah, it was a unique and low-production variant of the Toe-rag and I wouldn't want to deal with the associated hassle.

Jake have you looked at a Q7 TDI?
https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detai.../overview/
They're really reasonable money and the CPO *should* have a 2 year/no mile + 5/60 engine/emissions warranty as part of the dieselgate lawsuit conditions...

They're actually only rated for 5,500 lbs or so. If I were to buy one of the VAG triplets, the Touareg and Cayenne are rated to pull more (7716).

Ah... looks like those are creeping up over $30k, is it a newer chassis? Would be nice, tho...

Wildcard, but what about a newish Durango RT or SRT? They're rated for up to 8400 lbs, have a 119" wheelbase (5" longer than Grand Cherokee) and some people are pulling enclosed car trailers with 'em, supposedly they do well. Factory air suspension on all four corners and adjustable damper stiffness.

Absolutely love the exterior of the Durango SRT. I just can't believe how expensive they are new.

My last g-ride was a new Durango and it drove fantastic. Although I never towed anything with it, the ride and interior setup are great and it has more usable space inside than other SUVs it's size. Only complaint is after about 30k miles the seats started to make a loud creaking sound when put under load left to right or anything other than just sitting flat and going straight. Took it back to Dodge a couple times and they said it was normal.

Leave it permantely hooked up and save the "real" money to buy something fun to drive daily, preferably German and irresponsible.

Test drove one years ago. They aren’t bad but plastic filled. No idea on handling an enclosed but a nice domestic V8 that makes good noises and I really do like dodges design language. Our neighbor has one.

If they are uni-body, I'd avoid it for towing an enclosed trailer.
