Layer Cake Malbec is my go-to when i don't feel like trying something new and it's usually in that $15-20 range. I was the same way in preferring "sweeter" reds and Malbec was the wine that kind of opened me up to trying ones that were less sweet, specifically Argentinian Malbecs.

Starborough Sauv Blanc is one of my favorite summer drinks. Tastes like grapefruit and grass, in a good way.
We got into some roses last summer that we really liked but I can't remember what any of them were.
I generally prefer red, big fan of petite syrahs and pinot noirs. Don't mind a good Cab Sav, I'm not huge into the really weird heavy stuff like Malbecs and Meritage blends.
I feel like $10-15 is a good range for a lot of quality options. Although I'll happily drop $30 for a bottle of Runquist Petite Syrah

Prefer Reds (Malbec, Merlot) But some good Rose out there as well. We do whites in the summer, mostly Chardonnay, some Rieslings.
Huge fan of Red Blends.
We prefer dryer stuff or anything with a residual sugar around or under 2%.
We use WINC as a service to have 4 bottles of pretty good wine delivered and hit up Wegman's pretty often to stock up.
If anyone is interested I have a free 3 bottle box to give out to try. Bottles range from $13-35 a bottle.
But I also like Peach Tripel aged in White Wine barrels so YMMV.

Try any of the Dreaming Tree wines (Dave Matthews' brand). My wife also likes all of the Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi wines. All of the above are like $9-13 a bottle.
Back when I was a raging alcoholic, I never drank bougie wine unless work was paying for it because wine is not hard liquor. I once dated a former Miss North Carolina runner up who was also an alcoholic and we went on a 2 Buck Chuck kick for a while. A case of wine for like $25 is the stuff that bad decisions are made of:

Both are half ABV of most meads, so they're a moderate but very drinkable six-ish percent. The bee thing is a softened ginger beer with a mildly fruity forward. Yes, I said fruity forward. The hibiscus is delicious. It's a sour, but it starts mildly sweet (honey), moves to hibiscus and plum, then finishes sour without drying your mouth. I've really gotten into sours lately and this one hits the mark.

Those sound pretty good. The limited experience I have with hibiscus make me cautious of that one but I do like sours. And the mead I've tried has been way too heavy so half ABV drinkable meads sounds nice.
Btw. That vivino wine app is pretty cool if anyone wants to check it out. You snap a picture of the label and it gives you ratings, info, and reviews. Then you can rate it yourself if you're drinking it and it'll make recommendations I think once you rate enough. But what I'm trying it out for is to keep track of the wines I try so I know which I like better for future reference. But looks like you can add friends who have the app maybe so that could be a useful way to share wine experience.

yeah, Toni and i have been using it for a while. Great way to keep track and remember different types of wine you like.
I've been starting to use Untappd for beer - very similar although you can't just take a picture of the label.

Just had Almanac - Grand Cru Ed. 2 (White). Sour ale, brewed in muscat grape wine barrels with apricots. It was fantastic.

For those of you that are a fan of the Bold Rock IPA, try Austin Eastciders Hopped cider. It tastes very similar, not quite as sweet, but overall better in my opinion.
Also, one of my all time favorites is Schilling's Grapefruit cider. This one is not at all a typical cider, but damn it's good.

Anyone in the RVA area give Buskey Cider a try, Cans are available at Wegmans, and I am sure Corks & Kegs, and Total wine have it.
Very similar to Bold Rock Premium Dry.

Very similar to Bold Rock Premium Dry. Just go down to the cidery lol. It's in right down the street from all the other Scott's addition breweries. They have a bunch of different ones down there including a nitro which is pretty good. I don't really care for their cider too be honest. But they mix things up at the cidery which is cool. They have their citra hopped on tap at latitudes right now too. I drank it at happy hour yesterday cause it was on tap and half price.
