Here is what the cutoff from the gangster JDM Morimoto fogs will look like. This is with the stock halogen bulbs on as well...so with the Morimoto HID kit installed the color output *should* be identical.



It's hard to see what the throw looks like because he's parked kind of close to that wall but I have seen other shots that show it "filling the gap" really well between where the headlight throw is and the ground. Super excited to get these in, just got word that they cleared customs at port in Jawjuh and should be en route to TRS within the next week or so.

I really need to get off of the twins forums. Apparently they make a factory installed Kicker sub system for the crew cabs that fits perfectly in the space underneath the rear seats?? Might have to add this to the longer term list. Yeah it's not the cheapest solution you could come up with for more bass and not the loudest, but it is about as literal plug and play as you can get and feedback from the community has been that it rounds out the Bose system perfectly (from people who don't want their mirrors rattling):

Looks like a good upgrade with the sub - does the Bose system not have one, or it's just not very good?

My truck doesn't have a sub at all, but I have a flat floor when the rear seats are raised, so I don't want to do the Kicker upgrade (they make one for my truck as well)... I'm looking at 8" under-seat subs right now.

Gotta love a good stealthy setup, where would you even put a larger box in a truck, up against the back of the cab behind the rear seat or under the fronts?

I couldn't figure out where the Panasonic (branded "Fender) subwoofer was stashed in my car, apparently its INSIDE the spare tire. Talk about a space saver.

Jake: No unfortunately the Bose system doesn't come with a subwoofer in this application...the bass is pretty good for not having one but apparently this allows you to keep the bass turned down through the headunit while keeping it much louder and cleaner at lower frequencies. This is an 8" exactly like you're looking at which I think should be perfect for the cabin of a truck.

Joey: I don't even know honestly. I feel like I have seen people build a custom box that like sits behind the front/center console in between the two rear passengers...the only other option would be behind the back seats and on this truck there isn't a ton of room back there. They sit pretty close to the rear firewall. Now that is a pretty cool solution to have it in your spare tire! I saw a few custom boxes for the XF that mounted a sub in there but what a cool factory option.

I just left the dealership after the Android Auto update and got to play around with the interface on the way home and it is really, really cool. I couldn't get the text function to work because I guess you have to have a supported app downloaded and updated (I just updated Google Hangouts which apparently will work). I also need to play around with the voice button on the steering wheel to see if that works (the AA site says it should but on mine it was just defaulting to the vehicle voice controls).

Overall the entire interface is really smooth, easy to understand and use and responds quickly. Google Maps is awesome. It is really cool that they integrated Traffic into it as well. Now, if Waze could be added as a supported app this thing would be unstoppable!!

A lot of it is fed off of permissions on your apps (Maps, Now, etc.) and I have a new phone so I will withhold judgment on where it struggled to recognize certain things (like my home address). I still need to set up a lot of stuff on my S7.

Will try to report back after I get some more practice with the voice commands and get a few more apps up and running, but so far so good! Total install took my dealer about 2 hrs.

Edit: Oh and the HID kit / fogs shipped today! Hopefully have those installed within the next few weeks

They just loaded it up into the existing head unit, pretty straightforward! It came pre-loaded with Apple CarPlay

It's been a while since I've ordered from TRS but man, everything was boxed up impeccably. They also had an awesome welcome envelope with notes, details on posting up on forums to get a cash back discount, and stickers.

Morimoto fog lights. These are beautifully constructed. You can even see the awesome details like the Morimoto logo inside the housing. Well worth the wait and I can't wait to see these things fired up:



I'm out of town for almost the next week straight, and then we're getting hardwoods installed in our house at the beginning of the following week but I'm hoping I can get my truck to my guy to hook this all up within the next two weeks. Will try to get befores and afters this time!

Any of you truck guys have any experience with tonneau covers? I'm looking right now and might bump it up on the priority list because it would probably be the most useful long term thing I can add to this truck. We had a death in the family so we're likely going to take it up to VA next weekend to help my mom pack up for a move and bring some stuff of mine that is still in her townhouse back down to Charlotte. Tonneau would be beneficial for those types of trips and vacation stuff.

There's a ton of feedback on the twins forums on every conceivable cover out there. I like it because you can open it from the tailgate and on the front next to the cab, and I believe lock both of them. You can also get a like drop down storage bin that sits next to the cabin which is cool. I don't know that I necessarily need to have the front-open ability though and the installation looks pretty in-depth (ie drilling into the tailgate and frame which I'm not crazy about).

I have always said, when I buy a truck, I am putting a retrax on the bed. takes up like 6 inches of bed length, but it is lockable and hard to get into.

A lot of folks at the track have this, I think DJ still does, so he can maybe chime in on its actual usability.

Nice that's great feedback...a lot of guys run the retrax too and that seems really nice. Just really $$ and yeah you do lose some of your bed and it doesn't seem as straightforward to remove if you need to

I'm with Rex on this, but you obviously know what you need better than we do. Looking at that G4 one you linked, though, it looks really impressive. Seems like no difference in bed size than if you had a toolbox.

I can almost guarantee you wont remove it as often as you think you will.

Dad got the ARE camper shell on his truck when he bought it in 2003. I think it has been off the truck maybe 3 times, and that was to replace the seal between it and the bed.

A friend of mine had the g4 elite on his f250. It leaked all the time and the seals were pretty shitty. He took it back to the installer multiple times and they are never able to fix it. Another friend has the retrax. It works pretty well. Doesn't take up much space and seals nicely.

I am going to have to disagree, people use their trucks in different ways. It makes the bed actually useable for more than just "crap I am hauling".

I have the Retrax. Yes its pricey (I actually found a brand new one in PA for $300 ) but its a HARD cover that rolls completely out of the way, and locks. I use it infinitely and would never consider a truck without a Retrax or "backflip" style cover. With the locks and cover back, I keep wheels/tires worth $$, golf clubs, etc back there a lot with piece of mind. I also got a tailgate lock, but I think you said yours has that stock. You got 4 guys going golfing/skiing and you want all your gear protected in the parking lot while you grab drinks/lunch? Better having a locking cover.

The Retrax works for me because I have a long bed truck. It eats a decent bit of bed space up top (might be even more on mine because long bed is a long roll up). Its clear underneath, so I can still fit wood in the bed/store stuff under it. Its "close" to waterproof except at the end of the bed where it probably just needs an adjustment.

A couple friends have the bak-flip styles that you quoted and they are nice as well. For a short-bed or smaller truck I would pick up one of those. They lock, are hard, and easy to use. They would be a pain flipping back all those panels on a long bed, as usual pick the one that suits your exact needs.

Hard fiberglass tonneau covers are for the birds, DO NOT GET. Very hard to get stuff out of the bed, can't have anything sticking up tall, and are very hard to remove. Campers are great, but I like having the ability to stand up in the back of the pickup bed. Ya know...and actually use my gooseneck trailer... Hope this helps.
