MM Spring Car Show 2015 - Planning Thread
#41
I'm a +1 for the "fuck Madipalooza and do the show anyway" crowd. I think that's how it's been the past few years, really, and attendance has been fine that I've seen. It's not like the show attracts a ton of students or requires a ton of JMU resources - lots of attendance comes from alumni, other car clubs, locals, etc.

Thanks for the update, Sam!

It seems that way because you have nothing to compare it to. One or two packed runs is different than completely packed bus everywhere it went and every run. It's in the numbers though. They just aren't there

Count me in for saying f it to Madipalooza and doing it anyways. If the C4 lot is open after 6am, all the better. If not, no biggie

Senor_Taylor Wrote:Can we get permission to put up fliers around campus this year? I feel like with the 20,000 people that go here, we could actually get some word out around campus and get crazy attendance. Along with a mass e-mail, which would be even better.

You should be able to do both fliers and the email. In my time at least, both were available options that required permission from the SOS office (is it still called that? In Warren...Debbie will know the details). In particular, you had to have the mass email approved EARLY. Like months early, it was dumb, but...I suggest getting on that asap.

Yup still early all the same. This one we really need to do. I don't think we did one last year.

And Sullivan, your rant came completely out of nowhere, like what? lol

And Sam, obviously as I'm sure you will do, I bet if you tell her we've had it done on the same day more than once in the past she should be okay with it. Lol "should".

We didn't get one out last year and the attendance would have been that much higher had we. I waited too long so make sure you stay on that one. It's something way earlier than I expected so don't let that one sneak up on you!

I'm assuming this has been thought of before but what about having the show off campus? Why must it be on campus? Too many politics in my opinion. Tell Debbie to shove it up her ass and discuss with a local business/ lot. The longer it takes to get a date and finalize, the less people that are going to attend IMO.

Because half of it was about getting student awareness so the kids who missed student org night can see we exist.

Yeah, if it's off campus, we're just another car show. If it's ON campus, we're the JMU Driver's club having an event. It's a JMU car show, and that's what makes it cool.

+1 to having a show on campus. It makes it that much cooler and more official. The only times it was even considered to have the vt show off campus was when things were taking a while to get done and we were running out of time. And by things taking a while to get done and running out of time, I mean procrastination on the officers' part to get an earlier start. As long as you guys stay on top of things, a show on campus shouldn't be that much of an issue the earlier you start.

Thanks!

I've had my time with ccvt, and have seen the club across various leaderships. I've seen it be at rock bottom, at it's peak, and fall back down. I support collegiate clubs and hate to see them fail, whether it be from something large or something seemingly small. I don't think I should say anything more....haha. That being said, I've been around to several MM shows and they've always been a lot of fun. You guys have historically been doing something right

When I was president we had a show off campus at a local shop that later went out of business. While it was neat in a way because we had access to a dyno, the show just didn't have the same 'excitement' you get when it's on campus. And what you save with negotiating specifics with JMU you end up having to do with the business where you throw the show at. Who gets the money from the entrants, who pays for advertising/trophies, who gets food money, liability, merchandise, blah blah blah. It was neat to try but I don't recommend it, doing in on campus is the way to go. Just the buzz that the show causes around campus with students walking through is worth having it on campus.

New Update!
Spoke with Debbie again today, she told me pretty much the Madipalooza day is pretty much a no go after speaking to other people (April 11th). So I asked about March 28th, and there is some big environmental conference that day but they have however not finalized on which lots they will be taking up, however we COULD still have it the 28th, with the catch being we can reserve C4, but if they decide they need our lot in a few weeks from now, then they get the lot even though we booked it before them. So really, our only choices are risk March 28th, be safe and get C4 on April 18th(although a NASA weekend), or try to have a Sunday show. Please feel free to post your opinion on dates!

-Also new things for this year, no more raffles... Debbie said there's some new law/rule that we can't have raffles on campus and there is no exception. :dunno:

I'd be down for a Sunday show as well, makes no difference to me. I think March might be a bit early in the season (nevermind planning). That raffle rule is utter BS....do it anyway. Smile

I wish there was a way to fight something about this. Part of me just really has the urge to protest that jmu doesn't care about their clubs having events. Why the hell would they need c4 for anything. It's not close to literally anything. Unless the conference is on the tennis courts.

It doesn't matter how close the lot is, Sully. It's a huge number of parking spaces that would make sense as needing for a conference. Y u so salty lately?
