Thanks for all the compliments. I have to be honest, I'm a little jealous of what alot of you guys are driving while your in college. I was driving my dads Ford Taurus!

Your right it is a toyota engine. But since I suck with cars I won't be doing it my self. Plus there is a full aluminum sheet that covers the bottom of the car so you have to put it up on a lift to get at anything from underneith.

I don't think it voids the warranty if someone else does it. I just think you have to have a record of it being done.

However, usually people get the oil changed with their first service where they do an ECU dump to make sure you haven't exceeded the RPM maximums for the breakin period.

Ironically, every person that has replied to this thread is already alumni  . Come on students, come play with the internet and stop studying (or drinking).

Anyway I saw a lotus in that same color somewhere in Connecticut last year, it looks great in person!

Nice ride man, I've always loved those Elises. One of my clients has a white one with an intake and exhaust as well as a bunch of cosmetic modifications.... looks and sounds like pure sex.

Hope to see you at an MM event hopefully at some point soon ^_^

If he has a white one then its an 06 as well because they didn't make white in 05. That Aspen White is really a great color especially when you have all the black accents that the elise does.

I've thought about changing the exhaust but I feel like I don't need to attract any more attention then I already do.

It's crazy how much attention these cars get. I have literally come out of the drug store and had people crowded around looking at my car.

Almost everytime I take it out people are taking pictures. I can understand camera phones, but it amazes me how many people actually have their digital cameras with them in the car.

No turbos made for it yet. However, 0-60 in 4.8 secs isn't bad for stock. Although I don't think I could take it off the line that fast. My stick driving is a little weak.

Before I go autocrossing I think I need to take some driving lessons. I know the car will perform, but I don't get to push it that often in local driving. I still feel like I am going to spin out if I go around a curve too fast, but deep down I know it should not be an issue.

Don't they come supercharged in some kind of trim? Maybe in Europe?

Just curious.

I kind of like them, but they seem like a torqueless wonder in my benchracing scenarios.

Welcome, BTW. Smile

thats what AUTOXs are for, learning, no driving lessons. I did my first one this past fall. worried about wrecking??? you wont its in a huge open parking lot with the only things to hit are tiny lil unintimidating cones. You hit one, it doesnt mess anything up and you can buff the lil smudge outta the paint. I strongly encourage you to do an AutoX ASAP, you will then be hooked and find ways of modifying your car to beat that clock.

I think the Exige can be ordered with a Turbo option. I don't think Lotus will ever make the Elise with a Turbo. From everything I have read it seems like people are waiting for a good third party option.

Also, the Elise came into the U.S. under a federal exemption that expires for the 2007 model. There are no bumpers on this car. The 2007 version is suppossed to have those stupid "bumperette" things just meet the standards.

Thanks for the info about Autocrossing. I know their is a track about an hour south of me where they have events. I'm going to find out when the season starts again.

A couple of questions:

Do you have to have special insurance to Autocross your car? I heard if I take the Elise on a track it will invalidate the warranty.

How much does it usually cost to participate in an event?

Nathan from TurboXS had an Elise a few years ago and he was planning to go turbo, but TurboXS was probably going to fab him up a custom setup.

With how light that car is though, probably some easy / cheap NA mods would make that car noticeably faster.

I agree with taking it out to some autocrosses... that would improve your driving tremendously ^_^

Autox's aren't held on tracks. They're held in parking lots.

:?:

Neither will void your warranty.

Your insurance may not cover you if you bin it, but that has nothing to do with warranty.

As far as the b00st option, a factory supercharger is available for the Exige.

Perhaps thats the difference with the insurance question. If you actually take the car on a real track then you would need separate insurance.

But since autocrossing is on a parking lot it simply doesn't matter.

I've got alot to learn! I think I will go watch an event or two before I jump in.

I find the idea of adding any power to that car laughable. Or at least, I would certianly laugh at anyone that thought I needed to add power to MY Elise!

Approx same time or better than any M BMW available. What bests it for under $50k? The STI and EVO by ~2 tenths? With double the drive wheels? And the 6L vette with double the HP. That's all I can find. Oh yeah, and straight line speed isn't even its strongest attribute, that's just a nice side effect!

When did they start this now huh? They have the internet on computers?
