Snow in NoVA/DC?MD

Fucking VDOT is so worthless, bunch of fucking lazy rednecks. 15 and 50 had hardly been touched at all by 6:30pm, not even any salt put down. Fortunately 7 was fine, but I averaged about 20mph the entire drive home because:
a) I'm still driving on bald ass high performance summer tires
b) VDOT hadn't even touched most of the roads
c) Half of what I was driving on was a mix of black ice and slush.

Stupid fuckers.

So VDOT is worthless because you didnt know the weather report and stay prepared for conditions?

That brings up a good point. While out shopping today I heard a few people say "Wow, this really came out of nowhere!" I understand if people don't look at the weather every day but it's been in the report since midweek.

I think for once the media didn't freak everyone out about it and as a result quite a few people didn't even know.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

I knew it was going to flurry and accumulate, so transversely I would expect that VDOT would have known it too. There was not an ounce of fucking salt down on the roads and nothing had been plowed on two major arterial highways I drove on. When I hit route 7, it was fantastic and was exactly what I was expecting to drive home in... I was rolling at like 50-55 no problem.

What's unbelievable to me is that the roads that sucked were adjacent to the fucking VDOT LOCAL FIELD HEADQUARTERS! You and I pay those dicks to do their fucking job, they don't do shit all year except for civic projects and trash cleanup... when it snows, you'd think the supervisors would get their crews on it asap.

My mom and uncle also drove home on 81 and that was a complete nightmare. My uncle said he saw some of the worst accidents he's ever seen and the roads were pretty much a disaster.

Maybe it's too much to ask local government entities to actually do their jobs. I should know better, I dealt with them on a daily basis for over a year and a half... with most of those people it's like pulling teeth to get them to remember their own names.

They just built a shitload of overpasses on 28 that really alleviated traffic flows. I can live without salt for a few hours.

yeah VDOT was MIA for this one. Which is strange, because usually they are prepped and ready to go, lay down salt before it snows, and the second snow accumulates the plows roll.

well, I finally got to try out the plow. ended up with a little over 1" @7:30 when I headed out. Once I got the plow set to the right height it was no sweat. For anyone who's seen my driveway I had it and the parking pad at the back done in 1/2hr. Didn't even spin much, can't wait to see what this thing will do with a little more snow! no pics as it was dark as shit.

my only guesses are a) i don't think the predictions were in line with how the roads were affected and b) it is a sunday.

It had been nothing until the last two weeks, but since then we've had 5 different snow storms roll through and the average daily high temp has been about 15 (one day the high was 0). I'm starting to realize that winter here is waaaay colder than home.

I spent a summer in the same town, and it was definately in the 40's at night in the summertime... the girl I was dating insisted on sleeping with the f'ing windows open too.
