No, I was just kidding around....I dont know why such a low speedo, I guess because thats the way the did it in the 80s. It's not governed or anything, and at 80mph its only at about 3200 RPM, with plenty of room for the pedal to keep going

Just to clarify - this is more of a visibility mod than anything. I'm putting all new bulbs in behind also. This plus Whiteface gauges should make it wayyyy more readable - it was pretty horribly at night before

gauges looked nice. you dont have to clarify we all know youve become a ricer like me, j/k. but seriously it looked good, and im sure those 1980s light bulbs were a lil dim, ever though of getting the LED replacement bulbs??? last longer and are often brighter????

Well - I'm waiting on those fucking gauges to come in - they must be processed by the same guy that handled jeff's pistons. I also just got all my seat covers/head rest covers in the mail today.....taking the seats out to go to an upholstery shop to get them put on..pics to follow.

Saw one of those fast back Monte Carlos last week. It was all ragged out and driven by a fat woman with her 5 kids in the back. Black exterior, but I'm not sure of the inside. Had its share of "#3" stickers. Didn't you tell us in your presentation that those are rare?

to jeff: Yes, extremely rare in car terms. in 86 there were 200 made, 1200 in 87. If it ever comes up for sale, lemme know. Most MC's are driven by rednecks with 5 kids. I dont know what it is - nascar affiliation i'd guess. I didnt know they made any black ones, might hav ebeen a repaint if it had all those stickers.

So, the project SS is coming along nicely. After a few hours, and many many many F-bombs, I got the dash back in. Which from now on I am going to outsource if I ever ever ever have to do that again. It looks sweet, pics to come, but right now my car is at the upholstery shop getting some sweet new seat covers and embroidery going on. w00t.

I hear you there. Most Daytonas are driven by rednecks as well. There is a guy in town with a V6 automatic ES car that drives around all the time with his shirt off. We call him "captain crotch rot" because he used to substitute teach at my high school, one day in gym class he gave us a lecture on crotch rot...ANYWAY! Glad to hear you car is coming along.

Well, I catch myself at work here trying to figure out how to make this car handle better. I came across an article where someone had achieved .89g on the skidpad, and about a 65mph slalom speed. I dont want to think about what the car would currently achieve, but here's my attempt at piecing together a suspension for it, using various kits and such.

Here we go:

Energy Suspension Control Arm Bushings kit - 62$
Hotchkis tubular upper control arms - 516$
Hotchkis Tierod sleeves (pair) 53$
Hotchkis rear upper and lower trailing arms 655.95$
Hotchkis Lowering coil springs (1 - 2") set (4) 295.95
1 3/8" front and 1" rear hotchkis swaybar kit 353.95$
4 Koni's Adjustable gas shocks 102$ each
Moog balljoints 25$ each

And like 1800$ in brake kit stuff for disc brake conversion in the rear, and spindles and calipers for the front.


Grand total: 2586 or so - no tax, cause everything would be bought online.

Is building a good suspension really this expensive? Feel free to modify this list for me, or suggest cheaper alternatives please. I dont know much about the world of making a car handle, so this is just some browsing/research I was doing today.

that brake kit stuff looks very expensive for just one end of the car.

i have a feeling that if you left out the control arms you could have a suspension that is plenty to have fun with for a long time. suspensions are expensive unless you either own a super popular car or know someone.
