Project SS! - HAULN-SS - 03-09-2006

Everyone else has one, so, i guess i at least have a thread now to post pics when I do stuff. For starters - dying a dash I bought used to the right color - this one is in perfect condition, no cracks, still plyable, etc etc, just the wrong color. I have two new 3.5" components to go in it too, and I'm going to lay the wiring for future oontz while I have it out

RESIZE THEM Big Grin

- HAULN-SS - 03-09-2006

yah, that's weird. I resized them after I posted the original ones, and updated the pictures on the server, but hte big ones still show up. I havnt quite figured that out yet.

- ScottyB - 03-09-2006

looks good, what brand did you use?

- Andy - 03-09-2006

So where are your 8 pistons & rods?

- HAULN-SS - 03-10-2006

used SEM brand, and their Vynyl prep stuff before hand. I cleaned the dash with an ammonia based cleaner before that. Took about 3 hours start to finish

- HAULN-SS - 03-10-2006

oh, and uh...8 pistons and rods? in the engine, in the car?

- Andy - 03-10-2006

Show pics of the good stuff. I've also heard you talk about some crazy thing called a carburator (sp)?

- HAULN-SS - 03-10-2006

Oh, yes yes...later this weekend i'll try to post some up now that I have a decent digi cam.

8 pistons mystifies most of us.

The only reason I have 8 pistons in my garage is because I have a spare engine on the floor, and my roomate has an old engine scattered in boxes.

So I spent the better part of this afternoon wrestling with this fucking dash. I have all the pieces out now, ready to be put on the new one and dyd to match. Hope it turns out well and I never have to do this again.

i hate dealing with interior crap/trim pieces. the fasteners always break and i'm always left with extra screws :?

- Beej - 05-12-2006

I had a 1/2" crack in the dash in my e30, so I spent an entire afternoon swapping that bitch out (and sweating my ass off) with a used uncracked dash.

There was a 6" crack in the 'new' one a week later. Never again.

- HAULN-SS - 05-13-2006

Yeah, I have a big ziplock bag of screws, and I have no idea how i'm going to be able to use them all to put the new one back in. It took like 3 hours to get it out

Hah, then don't! Big Grin Every screw/nut/bolt you don't put back in is one you'll never have to take out later... anybody still interested in riding in the 240?

Did finals age you a whole lot? You look really different in that second pic :-p.

- HAULN-SS - 05-13-2006

hah, nah -thats a guy I know helping me out for a while. He's a car guy too - just sank about 45 G's into a 70 Chevelle 454 SS. Pulling a dash is almost a two man job as it is - someone to hold whiel soemoen reaches around behind and disconnects everything. I've got a table full of parts to clean and dye, reassemble - then back to work putting it all in

- HAULN-SS - 05-21-2006

So Uh...the ricer in my has won a small, small victory - I guess I couldnt help myself. New overlays being printed for the gauges. I have everything ready to go back into the car. W00t.

- D_Eclipse9916 - 05-21-2006

only goes up to 115? ooh those are pretty cool tho. The ricer of me will eventually get to me and ill get gauges....

- HAULN-SS - 05-22-2006

Yeah...ONLY 115. thats about what my car will max out at, maybe less. </sarcasm>

- D_Eclipse9916 - 05-22-2006

gearing? I am assuming? No way an SS doesnt have enough power.
