So did they not make the wagon in 335i trim?

Also, I'm starting to sway in the same direction with needing a pickup. For the longest time, I swore I'd never not own a pickup because they're too useful. Honestly, I did use my truck for truck stuff more than 95% of people, but stepping out of one and into an SUV has proven very useful and more practical. Now I find myself wondering if I even need and SUV and if i could just have a nice 4 door car. It's a slippery slope that might end you up being that guy who asks to borrow their friend's pickup every time you move or need something done, and I don't want to be that guy.

In Europe, yes. They also made a 335i/335xi in sedan trim, and the whole drivetrain will bolt in. DJ HALP. I had AWD on my audi, obviously, and never felt like I wished I didnt have it.

The wagon is awesome for utility but unless you own a house, have dogs or kids, camp often, race bicycles or do other things that require hauling shit around all the time I cant say its really worth it. I'd like to say after making the switch I'll never not own a wagon as one of my cars but I do all of the shit above save for kids (for now).

Once you stop pulling cars out of barnyards you pay for movers, too.

i have a kid, haul bikes, haul lumber, do Costco runs, and carry family+luggage in a 4 door sedan all the time. have now for 20 years. if you're single and not doing those things all the time, i have no idea why you NEED an SUV unless you're towing/offroading all the time. the only reason i own one is that its my wife's, and i'm typically trying to find reasons to make it useful.

again, how often do you need to haul furniture/800lbs of mulch/4x8 sheets of plywood? you probably wouldn't be That Guy.

I think I've talked myself off of the cliff of the RWD M-sport wagon for way too much money. For now.

In worse news, the fuckwits at the dealer I bought the car from didnt do anything to the title that I sent back to them with specific instructions on what the VA DMV said was missing, plus highlighted the sections ON THE TITLE that were missing. And then they sent it back, doing nothing. What in the actual fuck? So, still have no tags. I'm going to go back tomorrow morning and see if I see a different clerk that gives me a different answer but its likely going back again via FedEx. I'm going to send them a bill for wasting my time.

I found a set of 18"wheels, picking up saturday in the same place as the sport seats, so that's convenient. They're this style, with a nearly new set of Michelin Pilot all seasons.

Yes, I'm ditching the run flat tires. I've gone around and around on this one and its worth the trade off. Run flats dont guarantee you jack or shit, I have AAA, I know how to plug a tire/carry an emergency kit of plug/slime/compressor. But mostly I have AAA. I can carry a donut spare in the trunk for long trips, which, the car ought to come with anyways.

Not sure when the steering wheel, shifter/knob and trim arrive but I'll likely have an E91 interior bonanza day in a week or two. Then I can think about getting this intake manifold and tune done.

Saturday I grabbed a set of sport seats from a local guy, along with the 18" wheels I posted a photo above. My steering wheel, shifter, and knob arrived as well - things are coming together.

I get home Saturday afternoon and I thought, let's be smart and swap these seats now so I'm not dragging these 50 lb seats into the house back and forth - its just 4 bolts and a plug, right? No, you fool, you bought a BMW. The seats were out of an older (2007) car, and while everything bolted up, my seats have what is called 'active headrest restraint' that fires like an seat belt tensioner in an accident.

A little digging on the internet and a youtube video, I've taken the backs off the seats, swapped the headrests in and plugged them in under the seat. Not a huge deal and rather have the safety features than not. I didnt unplug my battery when doing this, so now I have SRS/Airbag warning lights on too. No big deal to get them reset.

The last kick in the nuts about this, is the sensor that knows if there's a person sitting in the seat doesnt work, either, for the seat belt reminder. Of course I find all of this out after I buy these things and bring them home. This can be disabled/removed through ECU coding, so I'm going to do that and we're done. The only upside to this is that they're pretty sensitive - my work bag sitting on the seat with 2 laptops will trigger it, which is annoying. I pulled the cover off of the old seats, which was a pain, but it looks like the seat occupancy sensor is integrated into the cushion somehow so cant just swap them over.

Going to call Mach V in the morning to make an appointment, I'm hoping they can do the ECU coding, but I'll have them check the balance on the new wheels, pair the TPMS and put them on and hopefully install the intake manifold and tune.

Reminds me when we installed the center arm rest (which is an option - wtf?) on the mini. It was "loosen two bolts, slide brackets in, frighten. Yeah, except the feet on the arm rest were inches wider than the seat brackets.

There's no thing as simple on modern German cars.

You probably had to code the fucking armrest to the car, too. When I had the car inspected, the indy shop said the brake pad sensor wasnt reset... obnoxious.

This kind of stuff is hugely discouraging for doing any DIY any more. The Audi was likely the last simple daily driver that I'll own. Of course it also had a tape deck.

The sorting out of the new car continues without much progress on the car mods, other than getting the sport seats installed, which are quite nice. No idea why the fuck you would ever order a car without them. When I got the car home, there was what looked like a paint scratch in the rear quarter/wheel well. I thought its not a big deal and I'd just have it taken care of along with a few other touch up spots, there's a good shop I've used before out in Ashburn. Turns out, its cracked bondo from some previous bodywork. The shop says they're 99% certain it hasnt been in an accident, whatever this is was cosmetic damage, like scraping a parking garage post or something like that and it just wasnt fixed correctly. This didnt show up in photos and you cant even notice it from 5 feet away, but up close its obvious. I called the dealership that sold me the car on it and to their credit they covered the repairs and sent me a check.

Car was delivered October 3, I couldnt get tags until the 13th while waiting to sort out the title, dropped it by the indy shop this week to clear my airbag lights and code the seat mat sensor and now its at the paint shop for a few days. I need to call Mach V and see if I can get on the schedule next week once its out of the paint shop. So maybe after owning it for a month I'll actually be able to drive it.

I have a bunch of little things here at the house to go on the car, but, I need the thing here and a few hours and nice weather. Sport steering wheel, short shifter/knob, aluminum interior trim, air filter, new door frame seal (original is torn), the b-pillar panel that I put a nice scratch in installing the seats. And it'll go to Mach V for the wheels, intake manifold, tune and I'll likely order the bmw performance exhaust and have it shipped over there. Once that's done project will pause for a bit before tackling suspension so I can drive the thing.

With the nice weather and the space wagon gone, I can make some progress on the CB 350 this weekend.

the used car life...i feel your pain. found out during some recent detailing that mine was resprayed in various places. sucks, but getting the dealer to cover you on it was a nice move.

we need a full-car shot of the dingowagon once those new wheels are on. gon be hot.

Well, I dont pretend this is all pleasurable, but it keeps me busy with something and by and large the 'project' portion of this car should be wrapped up pretty soon. When I get to suspension, someone else is installing that. I'm scaling back what I'm willing to DIY these days, after 99% DIY on the Audi for 3.5 years and remodeling my house, I'm keeping that for simple jobs and the CB350, but I guess those are the same thing.
