I don't need you to find me trucks, I need the education on what to look for in each model

What about a Titan?
Disclaimed -- Never done any research on them, but when I do occasional CL searches they seem to be priced reasonably, capable of pulling an open trailer EASILY, and if you want the base model w/long bed... there seem to be a lot of them.
Where's Evan at?!
Kaan Wrote:6.2l chevy motors... ? knowledge?
In your price range I assume you are talking about the LQ9. Basically a more aggressive cam, and compression bump. More expensive and heard its a bit more of a revver than the "torquey" 6.0.
A bajillion 6.0L were made from Denalis, to 1500 trucks, to escalade, to 2500HD trucks.
6.2L was available in many derivatives from newer Escalade/Denali to HO 2500s, to LS style camaros/vettes (ls3), to LT1. Gotta be specific which 6.2L you are talking about
I also don't see the Titan as a bad idea. More heavy duty than the old tundras that rust out and are super small, and not kidney busting stiff like the new tundras.

when I say tundra I'm talking the 2007+ with the 5.7L... the 6.2L I'm talking about are in some of the 2500s I've seen listed for just outside my budget (I think)

Where's Evan at?! yeah they kick ass. (06+ got the kinks worked out)
everything i could ask for in a truck. lots of little details done right that really make a difference.
spectacular engine, has been rock solid for me.
i think kbb on my truck is around 10k? maybe less? imo its a no brainer for that much $$ vs paying a ton more for an oil burner if youre not towing a house.
I wouldnt hesitate on the 08+ tundra either. never heard a bad thing about them.
the chevy trucks of that vintage, however, i heard tons of guys complaining about how much of unreliable peices of shit they were. ymmv.

need 4wd! I'd like to not have to get out and lock hubs and stuff... shift on the fly would be sorta nice. I think manual stuff got me in a little bit of trouble at 4am when I was leaving in the storm.

4WD wont keep you out of the ditch. Get snow tires and some sandbags.

Is the 08+ Tundra effected by the frame rust issues? I think there was an official recall... sooooo I dunno.

Even the paint rusted coming from the factory. You aren't paying attention if you think there were no issues with those trucks.

get a ride in an F150 ecoboost. Pete's is awesome. with the right rear gear and all-season biased tires you're going to get 20mpg on the highway empty and plenty of grunt when you're pulling. frighteningly fast for what it is and amazingly quiet with the turbos in the exhaust stream...feels like a big sedan. 516 lb/ft. to the wheels with an exhaust and a tune if you can believe that shit.

its an ugly. soulless truck, but id rock one if it was priced right.
id guess that a titan or F150 would be cheaper though

h
Again, check around. There are TSBs on the new Tundras 08+ with bed rust/tailgate rust, paint bubbling on front bumpers.
08+ Tundra, all the disadvantages of a 1500 (only V8 gasser, cant tow more than 10) + disadvantages of Heavy duty trucks (STUPID stiff ride, bed frame bounce, bad gas mileage). I wanted one BADDDDD 3 years ago, till I test drove them against the domestics.

I'd totally rock the second one.
Though which one looks better setup for towing? The Rock Warrior has 4.10 gears whereas the last one has 4.30 I believe.Though I personally hate all that chrome. :vomit:
Edit: LOL
Quote:Toyota puts a 4.30 in the rear end of 5.7L Tundras with the Tow Package but it's supposed to be "rated" for 10,300 pounds and they wanted to give you a good gear for getting off the line, and to compensate for such a ridiculously low rear end gear, they give you a double overdrive transmission to help with fuel economy and speed. But, you are driving a 5.7L, 345 cubic inch engine. You are going to get shitty gas mileage no matter what you do.
