They are quick in a straight line but don't seem to handle worth a damn.   

And usually driven by people who have no concept of driving on a race track.

FWIW I found a sheet of NASA track records and the thunder roadster is ~3.5 sec faster per lap on VIR full or north course.

I stumbled across this guy, Basil Lynch, on Instagram some time ago and began following him. He basically travels all over the US, Mexico, Canada, Alaska in his overland rig. Must have some kind of remote job or a huge trust fund. Anyway, he is selling his rig to build a new one to travel South America in. This thing is badass.
