Gotta have good internet service; and there is no flipping channels. I prefer it vastly over satellite or cable and even split the service (3 tvs at once) with my mom. We don't watch much TV but its good to have. Gets us under the $100/month for internet/cable cost.

I mean I have FiOS gig connection with the tv plugged directly into Ethernet. Maybe the Vizio app itself isn't that great. I think it'll definitely be doable. It would get us down to like $130 vs 160 now...

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It's been fine for Netflix and prime and Disney. But it does struggle a little with Vudu (which is a shitty ui anyways) and lately it acts up with Netflix occasionally. I still think it's a pretty decent UI. I way prefer it over the fire TV or firestick. I think it looks more refined than the Roku style on tcl but that one seems to work pretty decent from the short interactions I've had with it while setting up my dad's.
I like my Vizio, I think they get alot of hate but for the price, I don't think you can go wrong with em

Even if the software is okay, you're probably hitting limitations on hardware to run it. That can be one of the challenges of more price conscious brands - crap processing power.

Smart TV apps are trash. Fire Sticks are so cheap - use those. Yeah, no channel numbers so you have to scroll. Only like 50 channels so it's not had. It also aggregates what you watch on the home page so those channels are readily available.
You always make things difficult Sullivan.

i don't think it's limited to price conscious brands. I have 2 mid-tier Sony TVs (one older and one newer) and using their built-in apps is a terrible experience. The newer TV definitely handles the built-in streaming apps better, but the user experience still doesn't come close any other external app device to said TV. Maybe the higher-end smart TVs have enough processing power, but i doubt i'll ever buy one.

I meant hardware limitations are the lower priced brands. Bad app design is bad app design and that's irrespective of price.
FWIW, my high end LG has great UX and my low end LG has shit UX. I don't use either, though, because my xbox is my media player.

Integrated Apps on Smart TVs are very consistently much worse than on dedicated hardware of game consoles. Using an Apple TV or Xbox is such a better experience.

Our original Fire Stick just died. Replaced with a new one and it's so much better. We have started to travel with one as well. Easy button for sure.
