So I assume you never use remote entry for your car and unlock your car manually like a normal human?
That's a terrible comparison because my car comes with a remote that unlocks it without me having to spend countless hours and money in order for it to do so.
Try harder next time.
And that is a lot of windows, Sullivan. McMansion of townhomes for sure.
Your objection was that he was being lazy. So, it seems, laziness is okay as long as you can get it for free (but still pay for it). Good job on moving the goalposts and gatekeeping, though!

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

If someone wants to just spend the $ instead of reinventing the wheel, I can ship you some mysmartblinds retrofit kits at cost, or another solution that's nicer and will integrate with more things, send me a PM.

Just chiming in with a recommendation, the Amplifi HD system with two mesh points is a fantastic wireless router setup. https://www.amplifi.com/amplifi-hd
I've had a Netgear Nighthawk R7000P and their bullshit "mesh" EX7000 range extender for a year, to share my connection with my parents' house 185ft away. I was able to get it to work with much micromanaging and it's been relatively stable for a year, but I wasn't ever able to update the firmware on the extender, the latest firmware for the router broke basic features, it couldn't support the "one wifi name" as it claims, still had a couple devices that would connect to one network and not the other, and isn't "mesh" in the least considering you cannot hop another extender off the extender. False advertising no tech support garbage that Amazon begrudgingly took back. I hope Netgear enjoys my FTC and BBB complaints.
Setting up this Amplifi system confirmed my suspicion that Netgear is a scam. I did almost nothing other than plug it in, firmware updated automatically, maintaining the same 185ft hop and then another hop 100ft off the back of their house. Whole network the same name, all ~20 devices moved over without a hitch and roam across our whole property. Like, I WANT to fiddle with it, but it's all perfect. And it appears they do somewhat regular firmware updates that don't break things. I'm thrilled. I think I could sell my wifi to every neighbor in a mile radius with enough extenders.

That's pretty awesome you can get that kind of range.

Cleaned out the charging port on my phone with a needle. So much lint. Why did I wait? I've been putting up with impossible charging forever. Even threw away some cheap cables I thought were defective. I'm so dumb.

Convinced me to take a staple to mine. Let's see if this makes any difference with android auto. Worth a try considering that it's free.
Best chromebook (is that still the go to for this type of thing) for my dad. Wouldn't mind a convertible if could get one for a decent price but just need something to facebook occasionally and pay bills and check email. Around $300 but could go up to $400 if there was a reason to go that high. Good battery life would be a plus. I don't know what else would be good to have. I do everything on my phone and my wife's Mac so idk about portables as much.

Acer R13, ~$330. My dad has one and so does one of my salespeople. I might get one next time too.

How different is a Chromebook from a PC. My dad is worried he won't be able to use it. I have never used one. Is it like Android full screen or is it more like a PC.

More like a PC. If he spends most of his life in a browser, he won't notice the difference.

He talked to his neighbor who's a little more tech forward then himself and he told him Chromebook was the way to go for his needs. If course when I say, it means nothing but some random dude he's know for a few years...

Helped my dad set up his Chromebook through a video call even though I have never used one nor had one in front of me to see where everything was laid out. It was some of the most stressful hours of my life. Yes it took multiple hours because he kept logging into some random chrome account today he created the day he got it before I told him he already had one for his phone and they should be the same to promote syncing of information. And we had to keep wiping the Chromebook and starting over. He wanted the bigger screen so we got the Asus 15 flip thing. I thought the flip would be useful in some way. Either way full setup will come next time he visits I guess.
In other news, Verizon is kind of pissing me off with their new pricing structure and refusal to do anything to an existing albeit out of contact customer. How many of you have cut the cord. A big thing would be some channels my wife watches including abc for Jeopardy which she DVRs. So an ota antenna would be important and someway to dvr it I guess. HGTV and whatever channel plays the people killing their spouses (foreshadowing if something happens to me) would be harder to get but maybe sling or something and can you record those. My problem is i feel like I'm going to be right back at cable prices with internet and all the services. Already have highest tier of Netflix and have prime (for shipping mainly) and will probably get hbo Max cause my wife wants Friends on in the background at all times.

We got rid of FiOS TV when we moved. Saved us about $40 a month by switching to YouTube TV. So far not missing any of the hundreds of channels we used to not watch. Unlimited DVR is a big perk. Easy to use on the fire stick.

Hmmm from a quick look that does seem to solve all the issues. Includes the 5 or so channels we actually watch and if you can dvr them, then we're in business. Is it like actual live TV? Like if I open the app, can I just flip through channels and see what's on? And are the channels normal or are they made just for YouTube tv?
For example, not that we ever watch it live but on abc on YouTube tv, at 730 every day, is it Jeopardy?

Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk Yes. Don't overthink it. It's just regular TV channels. Live TV and everything. Channel guide like any other service.

Got the trial. Not exactly the same... As far as I can see there are no channel numbers or way to quickly get to a specific channel. I think it may still work although it was pretty laggy yesterday when I tried it and menus were having trouble loading
