in other news, i enjoyed ep2 quite a bit more than 1 if mostly because of the camaraderie before the battle. and some amazing, emotional acting by Ghost

Maaaannn Tormund's giant story had me wheezing. Best part of the episode.

But still, felt kinda like a slumber party, I was kinda ready for something to surprise everyone and get the party started. I actually thought the hooded figure riding into the castle in ep. 1 was a disguised white walker.

I think the battle is gonna be a shitshow given that no one seems to have done any planning for the fact that the Night King has a dragon. 'Let's lure him to the courtyard so he can fly in and incinerate Bran...'

I was cool with episode 1 being talking, but episode 2 seemed like that really good 10 min scene in Saving Private Ryan where they're waiting for the Germans to show up stretched out to an hour. It coulda been shortened to by 80% and been tacked on the end of 1.

I enjoyed ep2 but I nerd out on planning and character/plot development. I really don't think that the Arya sex scene added anything at all though. Seemed thrown in just because.

I've asked myself what I expected and the only answer I came up with was this is the third Matrix. The beginning of the series was great, like the first movie. The middle of the series was like the second, where it was obvious they were just buying time until the crescendo. Then, the end can never really live up to the magic of the beginning. The freshness of the idea is gone and the only thing left is tying up a bunch of loose ends. On it's own the last season wouldn't be bad, but people have come to expect so much more from the series. 

I wasn't remotely close to riding the hype train on this one and I still think it's pretty disappointing.

the matrix trilogy is an apt comparison, i like it.

but people have come to expect so much more from the series. 

rightfully so. it was well paced, the characters and the rules of that world were compelling. realistic motives and realistic consequences. the payoffs felt earned and satisfying and the losses felt cruel but often understandable.

you're right - on its own, the last seasons would be "good" TV, but when you lead off with a great story and it dissolves into this nonsense by the end, it just stings so bad and its why i'm particularly salty about it. i rarely invest myself this much in a series.

anyway, part of it is unquestionably bad writing by people that are now completely out of their depth...some of the choices being made every episode are now almost comically senseless. but, let's be honest, part of it is also likely a whole lot of actors looking at their watches that want to move on with their careers which forced compressing a super complex story with predictable results. when its all over, i'll still enjoy the series, but knowing what it could have been will always leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Good visualization of book material that shows they really used up everything they had by the end of season 5. This aligns with my opinion of the show.

Full disclosure: I only made it through book 1 before I stopped because it wasn't holding my attention.

I wasn't enthralled with last night's episode either. It was okay. But we seem to be just dragging on and on and on. Cersei having insert random inconsequential advisor's head chopped off was so lame and obvious. Do they really expect us to care that Grayworm's lover was killed? Did they expect us to think Cersei wouldn't kill her?

I've really enjoyed every season of GoT until this one. Just as I feared, it feels rushed and kinda sloppy. Episode 4 wasn't terrible I guess. I do feel like Daenerys' character is unraveling now. She was all about breaking the wheel and all that, but zero introspection now when it's possible that maybe the best way to achieve her goals is to let Jon take the throne. But maybe introspection was never really part of her character.

I wonder if Sansa is the one who tipped off Cersei about Daenerys going back to Dragonstone. She's like Lady Littlefinger now.

At this point I'm expecting to series to end with a whimper. Maybe we'll get Cleganebowl or something.

I feel like GoT is totally off the rails. Are we supposed to have believed all along that Dany would follow in the footsteps of her father? Because I sure didn't think that was going to happen. Now we are set for an interesting line of events. I told Rex last night that Jon will have to kill her, but that seems fairly obvious.

What does she gain by burning the city she is set to rule?

Jamie and Cersei's death was so blah.

The cleangebowl was well done. I thought the ending of both of them was fitting.

I watched the after episode summary and thought it was comical how they justified Dany unraveling.....

“Remember that one time in like season 2 where she just didn’t care that the dude died, yea that was foreshadowing this reaction.”

I’m ok with the ending they are leading towards, but the setup and execution is just sloppy and rushed .

Cleganebowl was acceptable.

Qyburn’s demise was excellent.

Jaime/Cersei’s demise was pathetic.

Jaime vs Euron? How was Jaime so bad? Thought he was some excellent swordsman, even with one hand, and he gets pwned by a fisherman with a dagger?

I’m assuming they had the C team on the giant bows this episode, cause it seemed relatively easy to take down a dragon with one previously.

Plus, haven’t seen that much blood and gore for a while.

Forgot about Qyburn. That was excellent indeed. Seeing him go flying down the steps was great.

Bronn was probably chilling somewhere safe. He was getting paid no matter who won, no sense in risking your life.

agreed.  you want to turn your characters completely around on their qualities, do it in more than 2 episodes plz.  Dany: strong female character, wants to do what's right, aware of her inexperience and insecurity so she surrounds herself with people to check her worst impulses.  D&D: AYO GURL DID U HEAR DAT BELL

D&D might be faceless men after all with how efficiently they can assassinate a character.  "Lots of Cunts", in the words of the only arc that was satisfyingly ended.

Cocaine Jack Sparrow's death was almost so predictable i thought it was a setup for something else.  guy cut through the entire crew of Yara's ship, untouchable, but couldn't beat a one armed has-been.  "but he was tired from swimming" oh eat a D, jaime's been through winterfell, travel, imprisonment, and running all over a rioting city.  and got stabbed twice and shrugged it off.  

i wasn't aware dragon fire was basically a minigun.  in slaver's bay it took 3 dragons running a train to just light them on fire.  but now boats exploding on impact, cool cool.  Jon hiding behind stone walls from Zombo Viserion's fire, but now Drogon can chop a fucking tower down with a passing blast.  also hats off to the Iron Fleet ballista reloading team, they killed Rhaegal in like 5 seconds, this time they can't get a shot off.  must be cramps or their hands are all slippery from sunscreen

golden company was a fun 2 minutes to waste a budget.  where the hell did all the Dothraki come from?  were they hiding in the winterfell basement?

Cersei, one of the most perfectly portrayed royal bitches of all TV history, got the easiest send off of anyone.

i like Sandor telling Arya not to turn into a monster, PS, she's already baked someone's kids into a cake, whoopseedaisy.  

Davos fighting on the front line of the city assault. the man literally states on multiple occassions he's not a soldier, don't put a sword in my hand, etc. ah fuck it.

i'm in for the last episode strictly for the spectacle of how bad can this get.  its like witnessing a building come down.  the ending couldn't be more predictable, but all i can hope for at this point is whoever wrote this hot ass blasting disaster is essentially unhireable from here on out after the intense backlash.

things i liked: Staypuff Mountain Man made me giggle, the camera work/cinematography was incredible all around, good soundtrack, cleganebowl largely delivered along with qyburn getting brained in hilarious fashion, Drogon going hambeast wild was neat, seeing Greyworm actually handle a weapon instead of standing around looking like he just drank a mouthful of prune juice.
