huh, i always thought bmw's had tons of caster. must be thinking of benzes.

So I think I need a rear wheel bearing.

A large majority of the wubwub noises went away after having the rear ball joints replaced. However, when I turn, I still get a somewhat severe case of wubwub.

If I'm turning left (and I mean at highway speeds, gentle turn of the wheel for a curve in the road) I get no noise. Going straight, a little noise. Turning right, louder noise. That'd suggest the left rear is bad, since I'm loading up that corner of the car, correct?

I need to jack the car up and shake some things around, but trying to brainstorm at work, too.

The rear wheel bearings are extremely painful to replace. I pulled the hub and did the replacement using a 10 ton press.

Leave the toe IMO. I pulled toe out and the car got harder to control at autocross speeds. A stable or slightly pushy car isn't necessarily slow, especially at track speeds. I'm sure there's plenty of setup knowledge in your roommate. I'm running a ton now, like 1/8" in out back.

I told him to just press in new balljoints in one of my old arms. They all have good wheel bearings :lol:

Yeah, but I'm going for the special 2014-model LTW wheel bearings. Anything to help my lap times in TT :wink:

I was being sarcastic, he baited me into it when he posted the specs. I believe DJ likes to run zero toe, hence the comment. My car either has .1* or .2*, not sure.

Lol "tech" at autocross. I have gotten away with an entire case of beer in my car during tech and actually autoxing when one popped out, hit a seat mount and started spraying the guy taking a ride in my car for a run (who was actually one of the organizers).

AKA Don't depend on a guy who probably knows less about your car then you do to validate the safety of your vehicle.

Yea it all depends on when you go through and who you get. I had been through many times and never asked about my helmet, then one day they saw it in the seat and decided to "tech" that as well. They said cause it wasn't snell approved, I couldn't use it even though it had the dot sticker on it.

I'm sure their loaners are so much better. Guess they don't realize the snell and dot certs go out the window if it's been dropped.

I ran with my helmet anyway....

Fox bodies always feel like a bearing is out... They are moving the clips in the stick. Go push on one, you will learn what your BMW isn't supposed to feel like.

Fox bodies (and factory five cars) will have a big collapse when you push (not a small click) or they will double click. Smile

So I pushed on both rear wheels tonight (with the car on the ground) and couldn't feel or hear anything.

One thing I did notice, though, is the right rear shock mount. The little plate is bent, although where the two bolts go through the car to the shock appear to be solidly mounted. Think this could be an issue?

after a decade in the tech shed you will learn all sorts of random shit you didn't really want to learn but it doesn't leave your head. every make, ever model, every level of build, ever odd ball genius builder guy (who probably smokes 5-6 packs a day or has a beard)... there is always something to learn every weekend.

Jake... usually bent shit is bad. depending on price and pain in the ass, replace it and see what happens.
