white97dsm Wrote:As far as the direction of the club, with new members diversification comes. No matter what the motorsports aspect of the club will be there, and will be kept as strong as possible. But we must realize that expansion leads to new interests, For example bling and what not, we just need to realize that no matter the interests of certain club members we are all Auto Enthusiasts and love cars and their capabilities.
the problem with this is we were all bling ricers at one point. okay scratch that, some of us still are. my integra had big shiny wheels, blue acura badges, hyperwhite turn signal bulbs, lowering springs with 100k+ mile stock shocks because i'll admit, i thought it looked cool. but there's a natural progression with car enthusiasts. some dont realize their full potential, some dont even know the next step and some think the bottom is the top. this is a common phenomenon. i give you the pyramid of speed. most of you probably have already seen this:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.nsxfiles.com/Pyramid_of_speed.htm">http://www.nsxfiles.com/Pyramid_of_speed.htm</a><!-- m -->
i hope none of you are street racers or freeway racers, but i think the mindset is similar in that buying parts for a car show is different than buying functional parts. example, the fire extinguisher in some cars makes it look like a "race car" because they might be in such immediate danger that they need to squirt themselves with a fire extinguisher much quicker than they can get out of a car nevermind that the extinguisher is mounted in a custom plexiglass box in the backseat. i just want to limit the amount of time an MMer spends on the bottom levels of this pyramid. its not that we look down upon younger students because they want a new carbon fiber hood or other bling part, but its just that the OGs were all there once and realized the error of our ways. we want to impart knowledge the same way that i saw the light when i was first coming to MM track events

Although, my pyramid is probably busted and I'd fall off.

^^^^agreed, we preach the word and then respect others decisions whether to pursue racing or not. As long as the message gets across is the main goal.
Agreed!

not that i need to inflate your ego anymore but i just thought this was cool: (from rennsouth.com, p-car stunna forum for the dirty souf)
Quote:Yes I remember the white Acura during the NASA DE August 14th. Your friend is an excellent driver. I could tell he was experienced on the track. If I was even a half-decent driver, there shouldn't have been any "dicing" between my TT and the Acura. But your friend managed to keep up for a while. I was very impressed. Maybe I will run into you guys on the next NASA DE at RA!
p.s. thanks for the ride on track, it was quite the thrill

students will come if they can, its a regular weekend. At this point I don't care anymore, I'm just going to fill the party with my coworkers and friends outside of MM, they're more likely to participate anyway.
I do care still! Come out, stare at Evans fag car, sit on our bikes, eat chili until your insides come out, eat widowmakers until your heart stops working...
its a no preasure social event that has some cars sitting around... come out ... we have a huge yard for football and stuff... i promise you'll have a good time!

It is the current student's club. It is pretty clear that the current students arent as interested in motorsports as the original members.
Now, since the founders started the club as a motorsports club, to what extent do the current students have a responsibility to uphold that, and to what extent do they have the right to change it ? (which so far is more of a generic car guy club)
yes! something we can argue about over beers tonight, tomorrow, and sunday night... at the track. Don't forget....if you come work at the track..you get FREE beer and paid
