The TV Show Thread *Possible Spoilers*

Im working my way through sequentially for better or worse.  Currently in the middle of season 3 episode 3.

S3 Episode 1 with fat Bryce Dallas Howard was the worst of all episodes so far. Which was odd because I whole heartedly agree with the message.  It just felt like a really really really bad Ben Stiller movie.
Everything else is a mixed bag.   Watching some episodes feel like doing chores.

Some people have described it as a modern version of The Twilight Zone.   I can see where it kind of tries to be that,  but TZ has a much better artistic subtlety to it where BM is the shock jock version that just wants to punch you in the face with its message.

But they don't flow from episode to episode right? So if it sucks, skip to the next one?

Is anyone watching Better Call Saul? Sharp Objects? Castle Rock?

I love Better Call Saul - we are finally getting to learn more about Mike, Gus, and Lydia while also seeing Jimmy transform into Sal. Kim's character is also evolving at a good pace leaving me wondering what happens to her and Jimmy's relationship in Breaking Bad times.

Castle Rock started well but I haven't watched since episode 4 and didn't even finish that one.

Really enjoying Amy Adams in Sharp Objects. It's a dark, twisted show for sure.

I'm still shook by the finale of Sharp Objects last night.  No spoilers, but damn - what a show.  Adams/Scanlen/Clarkson were each so impressive to watch as Camille/Amma/Adora.  Plus, I love anything southern gothic, so together with Vallée's directing/editing, and the way the production wove together the (excellent) music, memories, hallucinations...it was just a spectacle to watch on many levels.  I'm betting this'll do the business at the Emmys.

Loving BCS so far this season as I have the past seasons.  At this point I just don't think that Gilligan & Gould can do wrong when it comes to telling a story.  Everything is just so perfect, like...I've been digging their panning shots of (perfectly cast) cars this season.  Just all the little details are as good as always.  I'm fawning now but I'm glad to find out that the prequel story format is working so well and is as compelling as it is, for me...I worried that there was no way BCS could hold a candle to Breaking Bad in the early days and I often find myself enjoying BCS more.

Definitely want to check that one out at some point.  I know Costner has taken some licks in the past but he's so good at playing the stoic, strong & silent type that I don't really care.

I had no idea this was coming until the trailer at the end of SO.  Last I checked up on TD the series appeared to be on life support with no firm commitment from HBO that a 3rd season was on the way, so this was a huge treat.  Can't wait to see how, & how well they get back on the track that season 1 laid.

Yes, it was hanging on by a thread after the disaster that was S2. It was said that HBO wanted Nic Pizzolatto to move on to his next idea after S2 flopped. I am not sure if he has any involvement with season 3.

How has nobody mentioned Jack Ryan yet? The only thing I hated about that show was that I watched it all in one day and now have to wait forever for next season. Definitely enjoyed it though.

Been slowly working my way through Black mirror in no particular order. Play test was pretty good. And the entire history of you was kind of interesting.

I've been staring at the ad on my firestick for about a month now. I am watching too many shows right now to add another. Once I finish Ozark I will probably start Jack Ryan since most of the others are still on TV and only once a week.

Ozark
Suits
The Sinner
The Office (re-watching)
Mayans MC
Better Call Saul
The Americans (on and off, hasn't really stuck)
Game of Thrones (re-watching to remember everything)

The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

It's... okay to good. Reminds me of a more PC 24.

Feel you Polen on too many shows. Better Call Saul though has been my favorite so far, though.

Thinking back on it, there's definitely some places they could have done better. But I think it's way better than 24. Maybe it's just cause I watched it in one day but to me, it felt like a really long (but still enjoyable) movie.

I liked the dude who plays his boss too. Thought the combo of the boss's break the rules, get the job done and Jim's boy scout routine together was entertaining

BCS has been fantastic this season. Monday's episode was one of the best of the series so far. I love the little snip of Saul we got and I hope they start bringing that on a bit more heavy.

Anyone watching Mayans M.C.? So far it is the Mexican Sons of Anarchy with little deviation. I knew going in it would be similar, but so far it is essetnially the same storyline. It's entertaining but not gripping so much so that I recorded it last week and sat on it for a week before watching. I'll let them have a season before I pass judgment and give up, but things aren't looking good if they don't make it more exciting and bring some elements other than typical drug/gun running.

I finally finished watching S2 of Ozark. This show is incredible. The emotions portrayed by the actors are fantastic. I am continually impressed by Ruth (portrayed by Juliar Garner). She started off as this give no fucks hillbilly and has evolved into an extremely smart and emotional person. Garner's acting is fantastic in this role. Jason Bateman does an incredible job in this role as a serious character unlike his usual comedy roles. I hope this show comes back for another season. I would be shocked if it didn't.

I made it through the first season of Jack Ryan and I thought it was pretty good! It left enough plot line there to continue on for more seasons but also closed the main storyline which was very satisfying. I feel like a lot of shows are pretty try-hardish when it comes to cliffhanging at the end of seasons, so that was refreshing for a change.

Jack Ryan started out strong but i didn't like some of the character development...just felt really forced/on-the-nose after a while. overall worth a look at season 2 though.
