Justin, a note my wife reminded me today. Apparently the 2018s have cylinder deactivation, which a lot of manufacturers haven't really figured out in terms of long term reliability. I don't know if that's just the CX5 or if they also put it in the CX9s but a lot of people on the forums specifically went with the '17s because they don't have it

Looks like that is just on the 2018 NA 2.5l, so 18 cx5 and 18 mazda6

CX9 has the 2.5L Turbo

Should pick up her new car Tuesday/Wednesday.

The Honda V6's would burn up the rings/ring lands in the deactivated cylinders. Would disable that, and auto start/stop if I end up with a car that has those.

I wouldn't think deactivation would hurt anything. But auto stop/start just seems awful for anything but a hybrid. I keep that BS turned off.

Is that something you have to turn off Everytime you crank up the car?

GM had tons of problems with "Displacement on Demand" (cylinder deactivation) in their trucks, mine doesn't have it thankfully

I turn it on if I'm commuting the car, otherwise we generally leave it off. It's pretty disruptive.

I've yet to find a vehicle that has nailed the start/stop function. We had a rental Malibu last year that was miserable. It was loud and clunky. Driving in southern California it was hot as hell and when the car shut off at stop lights the AC would lower a fan speed or two as well. It was brutal. Would never buy a car from GM with that feature.

Yes.

From a stop, the electric motors start you off then at a certain mph or throttle position, it transitions to the gas motor.

I also think a CVT trans plays a role in how smooth all of this goes down.

So all hybrid cars should be able to handle start/stop with ease.

I believe hybrids use the electric motor to initiate movement then engine starts and transitions in. (We had a hybrid camry) It happens pretty quickly, within the first second or two, but the take off is smooth and without delay and the transition un-noticeable.

The Prius (and other Aktinson-cycle hybrids) have a goofy transmission setup that isn't quite a CVT even though they market it as such (I guess "CVT" is easier to explain than "planetary gear sets and magic" to buyers). It makes for super smooth transitions between electric and ICE.

I've never driven any ICE vehicle that could do the auto start well. The newer ones are getting better at it but are still rough. I think you really need a hybrid setup to make it seamless.

So who wants a Prius?

Deposit made on the red car. 20in of snow in their forecast means the dealership is closed today. But finalizing everything tomorrow.

Depending on cost I may just go with whomever the dealership recommends for shipping.

I know uship is a good option, but if you know some other options lemme know.

Just don't use the cheapest of the cheap on uShip, but a good place to compare to what the dealer says.

Edit: I shipped my roll bar from my Mazda3 via uShip and had a fine experience with the 3rd cheapest option lol. Nothing like shipping a car though

no matter who you book with on uship is a roll of the dice because they contract/bid that out to someone else.

also, every car shipper i've ever dealt with has zero concept of time/schedule/distance. if they call you and tell you they are an hour a way, ask where they are and prepare to get comfortable, its gonna be a lot longer than that. they'll tell you they "hit traffic". Motherfuckers, we have technology now.
