Think you could lend a hand with the exhaust on my project? I'll be needing headers and a y-pipe.

well i'm kind of using hte stock 4 to 4 set up and making a 4 to 1 set up with some bits i pick up there and there... i havent heard back from the guy in Detriot that has a 4 to 1 that is basically what i want minus the muffler on it. bastard!

Saturday, Rex, Julie, Matt, and I decided weÔÇÖd work on the busted piles of crap and clean up the garage a little. IÔÇÖve finally decided that IÔÇÖm going to have someone else strip the frame and powder coat it. The rest of the stuff Rex and I will powder coat on our own. So it was time to break into one of the 3 seized motors I have.
Step one: Throw the shocker Honda used Philips head bolts to hold the valve cover down. Ive read over the internets that a Japanese Philips head is not the same as the American Philips head. It might be a #2 to the Japanese, but it would be more like a #1.5 to us. That and 35 year old assembly lube, well its more like Loctite now! We only had to use half a can of PB Blaster and drill out 2... but the valve cover came off.
Step two: Attempt to remove the head. This is kind of tricky since the cam wont move, so you have to cut the cam chain then you can remove the cam and rockers make sure you get all the oil you possibly can on yourself and you are done! Its not really oil its some mystery oil crap and ATF!
Step three: Its time to get the cylinders off. Now its a seized motor. I thought, since it looked like the Exxon Valdez exploded on the back of the motor and frame, that it was an oil starvation issue, and the lower bearings were shot. Well, when we couldnt pick up the cylinders I knew it wasnt the case. The rings rusted to the cylinder walls!
So you might ask how do you free up frozen rings? Its called a BFH!
Im sure more than one was stuck the motor would spin but the cylinders were moving up and down as well!
The cylinders themselves are salvageable. They will work fine for an 836 project which will show up next winter But this is what Im left with I need to read up on how to take apart the bottom end of a motorcycle engine. Its more like a crank holder and a transmission in one!

if the rings were rusted to the walls arent you going to need to bore to oversize and use new pistons

im not a motorcycle dork, "836" means nothing. Nevermind though, I no longer give a shit.

Sorry Evan, I thought you'd just skipped over it.

Big bore kit - 836cc, up from 750.

the condition of the cylinders, because of the "years" of sitting and rusting, arent good enough to just ball hone and let'r eat!
an 836 is a big bore kit, but there isnt a need to restore any of these stock motors because a free spinning one is only $300. these motors are being disassembled for the next project... for next summer/fall/winter.

Kaan- we talked at turducken about coils, but I don't remember what resistance you need. I've got a pair of green Dyna dual-output coils, 3.0 ohm resistance primaries and 14.4k ohm resistance secondaries. do those work?

has this project died?

Died is not a good word.
But kaan's been doing a motorswap on his FZR, and that's taken up most of the time and resources.
The frame is due to be sandblasted soon though. Maybe this weekend. (But I doubt it)

Everything in that garage is dead
