Some of you know that I purchased ChapinÔÇÖs CB750. Basically the plans are to turn it into a daily ridden caf├® racer. So here are the plansÔǪ IÔÇÖll keep this post up to date as much as I can. ItÔÇÖs been ÔÇ£slowÔÇØ going, lack of motivation, money to get it to the next step, etc. have all held me back a little.
This is how the bike sits now. Well the front forks and triple trees are removed, but its bascially how it sits. The only thing left to remove is the center stand. I was going to strip the frame by hand and just paint it. Unfortunately, itÔÇÖs a pain in the ass to do! So I am milling over the option of sending to get sandblasted and powder coated.

The plan is to have a high gloss black frame, outer rim, head and engine block, bars, and bar end mirrors. The tank, tail section, and engine covers will be British Racing Green. IÔÇÖve flip flopped on the color other than black about 20 times now. So when it is all said and done, it might not be BRG!
Much like RJÔÇÖs project, IÔÇÖll be running the wider 16 inch rear wheel. IÔÇÖll be running (if I can find them) CB900F shocks like RJ as well. The bike will have non adjustable clubman bars, probably cut down.
The normal gauges will be used, but IÔÇÖll be making a custom mount for the GPS unit that I will use basically as a primary speedometer. Depending on the electrical output, and the ability to run LEDs as much as possible, IÔÇÖd like the bike to power the GPS unit and not have to use batteries.
I may continue to strip the frame in certain areas by hand, so I can weld in gussets. The CB750 frame is notorious for being flexible. With the idea of running modern sport bike tires and the possibility of a motor upgrade, I would like to stiffen it up a little.
After I get back everything from various sources to powder coat (thanks Rex) the next object is to break down the three seized motors I have, buy new bearings and rings, a heavy duty cam chain and tensioner, and get a motor spinning freely, and running. The rest of the motor parts will be held in reserve for next winters project. Either a new CB750 to build or a meaner motor to install in this CB750.
There are lots of little things to think about. IÔÇÖm going to go to a duel front brake set up, so I need a ÔÇ£modernÔÇØ front brake master cylinder. I also need to figure out what type of rear sets to run, and how to mount them. So far the plan has been to buy RC51 parts off eBay as I find them. From searching the ends of the internets, I have found all the lights I would like to use. So I just need to pinch my pennies and start picking up parts here and there.
The biggest purchase is going to be the ignition system. I dont want points Ive heard countless stories of them being a disaster. So Im switching to Dyna coils and ignition system. Its a $360 purchase, by far the most expensive item I need to buy.
I have countless parts in boxes, most of which I wonÔÇÖt use. So once the ball is rolling a little faster IÔÇÖll be selling of pieces I know IÔÇÖll never use on any CB project. Hopefully that helps with funding the things like lights, coil systems, and some of the powder coating costs.
