Yeah but much much sexier...too bad itd be about 10x the expense to run that AI car. It wouldnt be hard to replicate etiher. A front lip, rims and wing (and of course much needed stripe), would go on top of a white SS car. Wonder if you could get that pig down to 3200-3400lbs with driver.

you would have to talk to richard to know about the bowtie... but the mustang can get into that 3400 range. it will cost you. also you have to do "power to weight" so that car would end up like chris's car and have to be a big fat pig

When initially rumored it seemed GM was going to offer it as a package, one for the vette to:

but quickly became apparent it was a concept. GM doesn't have the nads to sell a car ready for the track, roll bar, harness and seats ready. The suspension is available as a package from Pfadt Performance.

I've come to dislike the way the Camaros look on the road, but in race trim they look pretty badass.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...

What makes you say that? Chrysler has done the Viper GTS-R and ACR (no cage but harness and proper seats, no radio, etc) also the drag race version of the Challenger. I don't see why GM wouldn't offer something like that in a limited run.

because GM actually tries to sell cars.....

Sorry I had to.

But in all seriousness I think GM is to worried about the bottom line compared to providing some crazy limited run race cars for a few enthusiasts/collectors.

The fact that they haven't despite every opportunity. Just as a fan of the car it's a bit frustrating to see what others are doing and GM won't. There are plenty of people out there buying vettes and ripping stuff out and putting stuff on that GM could do and sell as a track pack.

The Viper example helps make the point, that it is certainly possible and there is some market and yet after 25 years of one of the best values in performance - nothing. Porsche has done it, Chrysler has done it, I believe that BMW is doing it (that orange M3 with the roll bar, maybe it's not for sale, I don't know) but Chevrolet has not. They offer a T1 suspension kit through GMPP, why not just offer a T1 option car that comes with the suspension, a nice seat, harness, no radio and no AC and those who are going racing (not just HPDE) can do the non-street legal stuff? Because - no nads.

In 88-89 SCCA kicked the Corvette out of showroom stock and created a dedicated racing series. Even the cars ordered with the Corvette Challenge option package had to be completely redone. They came with full interiors, exhaust, and if I'm not mistaken even a radio and AC. This was a car specifically being ordered to go racing at a national level. You can't tell an unconverted car from a regular car ordered with cloth seats.

Hell, half the buyers of the track ready car probably wouldn't ever go...but they'd buy'em to say they have'em. (and then sell them 6 months later when they can't stand barely fitting in the seat anymore)

Maybe they'll prove me wrong one day....

just to throw something into this old discussion, just saw today GM is making a rolling chassis drag race camaro. Pretty cool. 55 grand, and you still have to provide motor/trans/body

I like it, that's all my car is missing is 420 HP. I'll hold onto mine until this one gets past the first model year, get the kinks worked out, then pick one up way cheaper as it's bound to depreciate.
