WTB: Mom Car
#1
Got a call from my mom over the weekend informing me she got t-boned in an intersection.

[pause for jokes]

She wasn't seriously injured, but got banged up pretty good.

[pause for jokes again]

She had a 2012 Corolla but is hoping to keep the next car in the 5-7k range.
I'll hit the local lots and CL, but if anybody knows of a friend/family with a decent Honda/Toyota for sale, please let me know.
Everything in upstate NY is fairly well rusted out by the time it gets to a 5 grand car, so hoping I can find her something clean and worry-free for a while, you know, like a Taylor Special $500 e30 or Miata

Still awaiting word if I'll have a new brother or sister.

Not a bad idea. Battery issues or anything to watch out for with those? Hoping to find her a Ronco 'set it and forget it' car

Gen 2s are rocking into 200k with no issues. Early Gen 3 cars may have dropped to 7k, I got outta the Prius game so I'm a little rusty on the market.

Thanks! That might be a good option and looks like it's up by Leesburg, so not too far. I'll have to drive it back to NY anyway at some point.
I'll read up on them some more, this one had an engine replaced at about 80k miles, so curious what was behind that.

An engine replaced, da fuq? All you do is change the oil every 10k.

Probably used the wrong essential oil in the first engine.

Probably thought it didn't need an oil change because it's you know, electric. Duh

How is the search going, did you get the story on the prius yet? I'm intrigued by the new engine part.

Forgot to follow up on this. A little 160k miles 2004 crv popped up on CL just before Christmas that I was able to snag for her well under market price. Threw some new tires on it, and a double din Kenwood for oontz, and she was ready to go. My wife had some relatives passing thru from NY to NC, so they grabbed it on the way home and drove it up just before New Years. Worked out pretty well.

Had my first opprotunity to use these wire connectors with solder/heat shrink built in, they worked pretty well and all tested fine. Can't really see any long term issues to them for a radio. Also, thank you to Honda for making that real easy, two screws took off the trim/vent, then 4 bolts for the head unit. Crutchfield had the oem plug I wired up in the comfort of the house, then dropped it all in. Total time, maybe 30 min. Much better than the days of crawling under the dash in the driveway while it's 15 degrees out.

There were a few marks around the car, the worst shown, I still don't know what they rubbed up on; but a little compound and the DA took care of it. And yes, I swirled the shit out of the paint, somewhere Dan K felt an unexplainable single tear run down his cheek.
