Clearly, the only answer is a 7.3L PowerStroke Excursion because babies have a lot of stuff and young kids have a lot of friends and then you could do all of that and tow my old Miata as well as four spare engines for when they essplode at Summit Point. And have GCWR left over.

The TSX wagon is pretty tiny inside, unfortunately. Would probably run into the same issue as many had with the Focus ST (and presumably GTI) - you can do a car seat behind the front passenger, but a second behind the driver makes things super tight.

I suspect the Golf Alltrack would be fun enough to drive and have enough space vs a GTI that it would baby well.

He currently has a FoST so he is looking for something a little bigger.

I'll let him know about the AllTrack. I'll mention the Flex as well

You've been converted

I wouldn't buy one, personally... but I'm a snob.

Most mid-size SUVs are built up and not out, so fitting carseats is way more complicated than it should be. We took our carseat and stroller when car shopping and the Mazda sales guy tried to convince us that resting the front seats on the carseat was okay. It's not.

Annecdote: A friend just upgraded from a Grand Cherokee to a Suburban because they couldn't get two car seats (one front facing, one rear) in the back.

Conversely, we can actually fully recline the front seats in our wagon with a rear facing car seat in the middle. There aren't many wagons in this price range and the VW is best for the money.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
