Spend my co-workers money

Budget 20k (so 22-23k I bet).

He is looking at driving experience, fitting two car seats and having the cargo space to fit them, and then doesn't want to spend too much on maintenance but if he finds the right car he will deal with the German tax.

He likes the idea of at least Nav/Bluetooth. Other than that he is pretty open to anything.

Crossover/Wagon. Wife will mostly be driving it. Had an MDX previously and liked it. One kid and adding one more.

Was looking at CX5, Outback, RDX (what years had problems?)

Wagon's: 535xi (He is worried about maintenance cost), TSX

What else is out there? He isn't looking for terrible decisions. Just trying to help him out.

Edit: He mentioned he has participated in 24 hours lemons for at least 4 season and has swapped whole engines/transmissions so he can do almost all maintenance just doesn't want to have terrible maintenance issues a lot.

Editx2: Wow. I did not know or expect this but this is the guy that bought Garrett's Miata which was Jake's which was whoever else's... Just started talking to him about his cars and such. Works at Capital One...

I asked him if he knew MM due to the Lemons racing at Summit and VIR. He said yes and mentioned buying some 95 black miata a few years back. I asked if it was Scott K. He said no. Then I mentioned Garrett and was like yup.

I say this basically every time a thread like this is posted, but you're describing a GTI.

CPO MK7

Within Budget - Check
Driving Experience - Check
Can Baby - Check
Available with Nav - Check
Crossover/Wagon - Close enough
German Tax - It still has a warranty, buy now worry later

Disadvantage - It's german.

Advantage - None of the cars you listed would actually be fun to drive. An Outback? GTFO.

Literally the same conversation any time someone needs a new car. I want fast cheap reliable. You can't have it all. This guy said he needs it for 2 kids and his wife is going to drive it mostly. That means driving experience should be at the bottom of the requirement list. The cx5 gives him everything he wants and u would argue a pretty decent driving experience for a crossover. I really enjoyed driving it for the brief time we had ours and it had plenty of rear leg room and trunk space.

I mean that's basically the reason why we bought ours, minus the two car seats because we haven't had the first one yet. The CX5 also has some pretty incredible available safety and convenience tech and it is fun to drive for an SUV

Hasn't this been answered with like every single car buying thread posted here in the last three years?

Also, a CX-5 is surprisingly shit for car seats. You're probably not getting a rear facing plus another car seat in there. You're definitely not getting an infant seat (they sit more supine) and another car seat in there.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
