Sh*t Your Pants Behind The Wheel?

Being rear ended is by far my biggest fear. I'm always super paranoid whenever I have to brake hard to a stop on the highway. My eyes pretty much glued to my rear view mirror.

Scariest moment one is when I was going down 33E toward Richmond in my accord and the tires were damn near balled and brakes were shit - I nearly understeered myself and all my belongings into the wild of the Shenandoah National Park.

Other scary moment, still in the accord, I entered this corner downhill thing at like 35-38mph in the rain. Thats too fast. So I didn't have ABS and the brakes were shit so I kept pushing on the pedal for more until it locked up and I slid right under the ass of a tacoma. There wasn't contact but I think I could have reached out and touched the diff. Yay for lifted trucks.

The Achieva is a simple one.

Myself, my buddy Robert, and our friend Bully were playing Risk all one rainy and cold ?February? day. I was 16, had my West Virginia Driver's License for about 7 months, and I had to head home, right as the temp dropped and it started to snow. I was driving (probably too fast for conditions) on a back road, saw a deer at apex of a curve, swerved to miss, went two off, overcorrected, pointed at embankment. Black out, come to a stop. "Oh shit my parents are gonna fuckin' kill me"... Unbuckle seatbelt and fall to ceiling. #nowyou'refucked. Apparently I hit just hard enough enough to have the embankment act as a ramp and turn me onto my lid. No glass broken, trapped in up car right after a corner #whatcouldgowrong.

Guy comes by, busts out back glass, I crawl out, end up in ASAP to get out of a reckless driving ticket. Mother never forgives me for destroying her beloved Oldsmobile.

Tractor Trailer:

Le Wife and I are driving on I-95 south to visit my brother. Not really heavy traffic (It's like 2pm or something?) just driving along in the right hand lane, no braking for traffic, JUST FUCKING DRIVING when BAM:

Out of NOWHERE this Indian truck driver (dot, not feather) plows the rear end of the Focus like Mandingo on Sasha Grey. Hits so hard his truck is like, STUCK on our focus, so we can't even move out of the lane.

We extricate, get hauled away:

then spend the fucking next 6 months trying to get this motherfucker and his insurance company to pay up. Never was fixed quite right, rear hatch key never worked right, lines of the hatch didn't line up, and water collected in the spare tire well. This would cause me great pains later when I sold it to the dumbest chinese PhD student on planet earth.

Still, that car looked great on K1's:

I almost forgot about the saga with the Chinese guy, that was painful, yet hilarious to read. Did the truck driver offer any reason for rear ending you? Fell asleep?

Scariest moment for me:

Looking back to what was ahead of me after taking my eyes off the road for a couple seconds to peer in my side view mirror (attempting to switch lanes) and seeing a Traverse at a complete stop in front of me while I was still going 65 mph. Air bag and all I was able to walk away just with a mild concussion and burns from the airbag.... pretty intense. Since then, if I'm on the highway and I'm in the left lane behind someone and another idiot is damn close to my ass it occasionally will have me slightly panic.

The aftermath.

Of course I had filled with $65 of regular THAT MORNING and put a new set of tires on it the week before. Fack.

And add 10-15 mph to this:

Wait a minute, how I could forget my wreck in my old truck?

So, I heading down a little country highway deal to my buddy's house. Beautiful day, probably 11 AM. I'm approaching a left hand turn that I can look across and the see the other side. I see a red Blazer entering it heading my way. No big deal. He's going really fast, and he comes through it and crosses over into my lane. Okay, I slow down. "He'll correct it" I think. On the brakes I go. Red Blazer continues into my lane and now all 4 tires are in my lane. We're probably 200-300 feet apart, heading straight towards each other, both going 50+ mph. I realize there's no good ending for this one, so I get real hard on the brakes and dive off the road to the right. We came so close to hitting that he probably missed my mirror by 6 inches or less. I hit the grass and the ditch and correct back left. I think I'm in the clear. Then I hit the fence. The worst noise I've ever heard. I'll never forget it. I clip a fence with the very right side of my front end and come to a rest in a flower bed. I think, man, this sucks, I bet my paint is ruined.

Then I look over into my passenger side. A board from the fence has pierced the front quart panel, both sides of the fender well, my firewall, then finally my passenger seat. I cried.

I'm not real sure I would consider this the "scariest" moment, because it all happened so fast and caused so much damage that I barely remember it. But it is certainly the most eye opening. Following my friend to his house in Georgia in 2003, going about 35-40mph in a 35mph zone and I have a blowout. I was driving my supercharged 96 gsr integra. It only had 17k miles on it, which seemed awesome to me, but I didn't think much about the 8 year old tires on it with only 17k miles. Front passenger side blew out on me and in a split second I was yanked to the side of the road and right into a tree. Broke my right arm in 7 places. [Image: P4191022_zps72345d05.jpg]

Butt-pucker moment:
Summer of 2004 I was driving back from Huddle House at 2:30am in my hometown with my college roommate. We were in my 96 Z28 Camaro. Just cruising on the interstate right before my exit and a deer runs both across and towards me on the interstate. Were going about 73mph in 6th gear when it happens and at the same time that I swerve to the right I shift it into 5th gear. Back end goes sideways and instead of overcorrecting I steer into it and we proceed to slide with our back tires in the right lane and our front tires in the exit lane for what felt like forever but in reality was probably 250'. Gave it some gas and opened the wheel up and it came right back in line. My roommate almost shit himself.

I have done some pretty stupid shit in my driving days....

So far my biggest oh shit moment:
PURPLE, 96 Talon ESi - Totaled
Summer before my Junior year in HS (01?), driving back from my summer gig at a sporting clays range. Driving to and from there were plenty of places to use all 140hp this car had. Was misting, driving on this stretch of rt 56 (https://www.google.com/maps?ll=37.64770 ... 1&t=h&z=15) as you can see there is a bit of a straight stretch, and a left kink, took too much speed into the kink, rear end stepped out, tried to correct, couple of fishtails and it whipped around into a couple of 360s. Facing wrong way in wrong lane, I cranked the car back up and went on my way. Pulled over to collect myself in a stupid location, I saw my buddy coming and waved him down, he thought something was wrong in the road ahead. Slammed on the brakes, and understeered into my driver door, totaling the car.

4 Wheeler-
Basically hauling ass on some new trails, on private property we should have been on. Running at a pretty good pace, I was up front, next thing I know I am in excrutiating pain laying back on the 4 wheeler with blood running down my face. Un marked, Rusted chain across the trail, clothes lined me, had I not been wearing my helmet, I am pretty sure it would have ended up in a pretty bad situation. 2 black eyes and a bloody nose later, I took my time on new paths.

Not really oh shit or scary but worth mentioning.
91 Ford Explorer - Still Kickin
Driver to school one morning I came up on a field, 2 deer ran out in front of me. Blammo, I hit both of them twice. For those of you that have seen the red/silver Exploder, thats why dad fabbed up that bumper.

I got in plenty of OMG why can I see the rear quarter panel of the eclipse moments. OTW to summit, water in that hard right hander prior to the track. WHEEEEEEEEEEE. Turning left after the days inn or whatever headed toward the convo at JMU, almost took out a road sign.....

I am honestly surprised I am still alive and/or not in a wheel chair, the 91 explorer was my HS car prior to the Talon, you should not hear rear tires chirping in turns on an explorer, nor should you bury the speedo, which only maxed at 85, but it was a very floaty 85.

Those are some pretty rough accidents. Glad everyone is still alive haha, but really. I don't want to have to experience my first big accident when it happens.

Also that turn on the way to Summit really does sneak up on you. I hydroplaned and slid out a bit on my way to the last summit event
